2021 BS BL. Back history. Car came with an EFB battery. Battery was replaced under warranty on 11-1-2023 with an AGM Motorcraft battery, manufacturer date of 9-2023. I looked at the battery today and it says made in China.

I did get the recall letter but not sure if it will apply to the second battery.

Now to my problem. Over the last couple of months the start/stop function stopped working. That's what happened the 1st time and the battery was replaced.

Over the last 10 days or so I keep getting the message, System off to save battery on the center screen. Today I charged the battery to 100% and 12.8 volts. Drove about 20 miles and back home. I shut it off, let it go to sleep, and turned the ignition on and the message was back.

This was 4 hours later. Battery voltage was at 12.2 volts. With an AGM battery 12.2 volts is about 60% S.O.C. So, 4 hours later it went from 100% to 60%.

Alternator is charging at 14.6 volts. I disconnected the + battery cable for 5 minutes and reconnected it. This seemed to clear the message on the center screen. I'll check it again tomorrow to see if it returns. I'm guessing another battery going bad. So with the recall we'll see if it will be replaced a 2nd time on their dime. If not, I'll buy something else besides what Ford has to offer, Costco or maybe Sam's.

Another issue but I'm not sure if it's related. The passenger door touch sensor will not lock or unlock any doors. Drivers side works fine. I can lock or unlock the doors with the passenger side inside buttons, just not the outside. This started about a week ago.

Appreciate any input.

Are there any aftermarket electrical accessories?

During the 4 hours between full charge and dropping to 12.2V, were any electrical devices plugged into any USB or the AC outlets?

Where did you measure battery voltage? Directly across the battery terminals?

No aftermarket devices added or anything else plugged in other than a USB drive for music.

Voltage measured across the battery terminals with a digital VOM.

All worked fine after the new battery was installed up to about 2 months ago.

Is there a BMS reset procedure on BS?

That, after a full charging, applied directly to the battery posts, made a bunch of gremlins I was experiencing disappear on my truck. That was last March or so. None have returned.

On new vehicles, full of tech. the first thing to suspect is low / weak batts.

Assuming your charging system is good It's possible the battery is giving out, you need to have it load tested to be sure. The good news is that the battery should have a warranty and you should be able to get a replacement at no cost or at least at a discount.

Had the vehicle completely just shut off on me. I was parked just putting in directions in parking lot and went to accelerate and the car jumped a little then the light flickered on and off till the whole car shut off and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Went to restart it and it stared back up no issue. Then the next day driving the dash goes dark and battery light comes on while driving. Fortunately it didn’t shut the car hold vehicle down and I could keep driving till I got home. Had the battery tested and it was bad. 3 years old didn’t seem too out of the ordinary. Then after then new battery the next week same thing with the dash and radio all shut off and battery light came back on. Took it to test the battery and it read fine. Just had the transmission fluid flushed and now my transmission fluid pressure sensor is not working and my check engine light is on. Won’t going reverse and makes an awful pose in drive. Throws code P0841 now.

There is. I'm not sure I want to reset it if the battery has issues and is going bad.

I can't explain why or how it could get out of whack but on my truck, it appears that somehow, the charge that the battery had and the charge that the BMS computed that the battery had, got out of synch. So, the BMS was sending all kinds messages about a weak batt. Deep sleep modes etc. etc. Charging by the directions, incorporating the BMS in the charge, would only work for a couple days and eventually, didn't work at all.

I tried several different things and while they all may have helped a little, only the following wiped all the troubles away and they've stayed gone.

Rather than incorporating the BMS into the charge, charge directly to the posts until the charger goes to float. Then immediately reset the BMS.

Thats it. Since last April, just from that one and only time, a bunch of electrical nuisance type issues went poof and have stayed that way.

I will say that others have done this and said it worked for them and some have said it worked but only temporarily.

If there is a down side, I don't know what it would be.

Bad post above. I'll give it a try along with the passenger door issues suggestions.

You can do your own simple load test if you have a VOM that records MIN Voltage. Attach your VOM directly to the battery (with engine off). Reset the MIN memory on the VOM. Then start up the engine. The VOM should record the MIN starting voltage. On a healthy battery with a full charge it really should not dip below 11 volts.

Mine recorded about 10.1 volts when I replaced my original battery in the 2021 BS BL.

Sounds like battery is bad. passenger door touch sensor not working can be a sympton of battery charge being low. I had a new 23 escape that sat at dealer for almost 2 weeks for an issue. when i went to pick it up I noticed the passanger door touch sensor didn’t work. Dealer took it back to check. It turned out the battery needed to be charged from not being driven. I was also getting messages in Fordpass app about battery being in sleep mode. I have noticed the same door touch issue on my Edge with only driver door working initially and the other doors working after driving a short distance. In your case it sounds like something is wrong with the battery.

I tried my other remote. It didn't work either. Going to charge the battery up again and see if the passenger door touch sensor works.

When you replaced the battery do you do the reset? If not the system may be falsely reporting battery issues based on time and use.
