How does upper post take a hit and lower post is fine????
If this is the case I'd suggest it may have been installed this way
damaged from the start
This is a great point. Also, what's the black X drawn on the muffler? Did your dealer do that so the damaged part is identifiable or did someone at the factory mark it bad and then somehow it got rolled to a new position without getting replaced? I seriously doubt someone at the factory has a job putting black X's on every muffler rolling off the line. Can't speak to all of them, but mine doesn't have that. That is a actually a double post that goes into the red damper. One of yours is broken off (missing) completely.

OP, couple things to pay VERY CLOSE ATTENTION to
Note the top post (green arrows)
Note the lower post (rubber rings)
Top post sure looks bent (not parallel to lower post)
Lower post looks untouched

Another point to take note of
exhaust muffler/post takes a giant hit
heat shield inches away unscathed?

Good eye Major Kong!

After giving it another look, if the upper post was violently yanked out of the exhaust hanger, the hanger and/or the lower post should be damaged.

Also, for the upper post to be at that angle, it would have to have been hit with whatever hit the exhaust (which is possible). If the exhaust alone was hit and forced upwards, that upper post would have been pulled down (if it were bent at all).

The plot thickens.

I don't doubt that you did not hit anything -- but obviously someone did.

Perhaps it was damaged during transport, as you said.

I don't make a habit of defending dealers, but this is not a clear-cut situation. From their perspective, it's clearly not a mfr defect. There's no way to cover it under warranty.

Your best bet may be trying for some "goodwill assistance" from Ford -- since you cannot prove it happened before delivery and they cannot prove it did not -- and you've had it less than 2 weeks.

Good luck!
I had it exactly 4 days & had drove 67 miles when it started making this noise going 10mg in a parking garage. Dealer said I did it & told Ford I did it, so Ford doesn’t want to pay. My insurance company isn’t paying because I said I didn’t hit anything. They are going to do a forensic inspection to determine cause.

The black x and the fact there is a number wrote on the end of muffler has been bugging me all weekend. General Manager of dealership finally called me back after days of me leaving messages. He called at 7:15pm on a Saturday evening. Guess my Google review got his attention.

I will keep you all updated on my progress of this situation.

Not to mention the drive shaft above it. If the muffler had been installed when it was damage it seems to me whatever damaged it would have also at least left a mark on the drive shaft.

Well at least lets hope thats the noise. If not Ill bet its the right side dust shield on break. Mine made exact noise when turning and got loader as I went. Rotor expands slightly and touched the dust cover. Easy fix to just bend it away a little.

Who is paying for the forensic inspection?

As Major Kong pointed out, the damage is a bit suspect. From the photos it appears as though the exhaust damage could have been caused by running over something, but the condition of the upper post and the hanger seems odd.

Insurance is helping me navigate this whole situation. I am hoping they handle it, but it will more than likely be on my dime.

I just know that I DID NOT hit anything! This had to have been done prior to my purchase. But there is no way to prove it. I just want others to know that they should check everything before signing on that dotted line including underneath.

Good advice!

I have to admit, we did not look underneath our BS BL (just interior and exterior) but we should have. I have since checked underneath here at home, but of course it's MUCH better to check at delivery.

So your insurance company is paying for the inspection?

If Ford and/or the dealer does not step up, I hope your ins co takes care of you, but as you probably know, there's a big difference between "comp" and "collision". If they classify it as collision coverage, your premiums will likely increase.

Did anyone else drive your BS in those first 4 days? If not, then since you are adamant that you did not hit anything you might consider pushing for Ford to cover it.

IDK how a court case would be decided, but you -- or your insurance company -- should not have to pay for damage you are not responsible for.
