I have a 2024 Bronco Sport Big Bend, and this issue happened to me this last weekend. Went to start the Bronco and it was completely dead, checked the battery with a meter and had 1 volt. Put the battery on trickle charge for a day and then tried again. Bronco started up no issues no alarms or CEL, however, when I tried to shut it off, the engine just kept running. Took it for a a 25 km (15 mile) drive to cycle the drive mode and tried to shut the engine off, but again it would not shut down. After about 10 - 15 just idling, the engine finally shut off, but everything was still powered up. Started the Bronco up again, and once more it would not shut off. Eventually I just pulled the fuse box and pulled the negative cable from the battery to shut everything down. It's now at the Dealer and they have never heard or seen this before, hopefully they can figure it out.

So, here's an update, got the Bronco back from the Dealership and was told that the problem was because I had taped into fuse #3 in the passenger foot well fuse block, (which is switched power) to send a 12 volt signal to the remote on for my sub woofer install. Does this sound like a logical reason, for me it doesn't sound right. The sub woofer is hard wired directly to the battery with an inline fuse and is only powered up when it gets the 12 volt signal from the switched on power when the Bronco is started. Anyone else out there have this happen when hooking up an accessory to fuse #3 ?????

OK here's another update, went to pick up my Bronco and low and behold it would not start, battery was dead. Told the service guy and he looked surprised and I told him that I was going out of town for a few days and hopefully when I get back it would be fixed. Got back and again the battery was dead, said they only charged it up to about 70% and it must has drained over the weekend, why, who knows. Now I'm beginning to wonder if this issue would be related to the recall 24S24 that was done prior to me having these issues. I've heard that people are experiencing different issues since they have had this recall performed. I still don't have a concrete explanation from the Dealership as to why this all started other than taping off of Fuse #3. For now I'm just going to leave everything disconnected from fuse #3 and see what happens.

Hmmmm. I've been tapped into that fuse on my car for quite some time now with no issues. Questions:

  1. Did you use a fuse tap with a piggyback fuse for the original circuit? It looks like the image below; one fuse is for the original circuit and the other is for the device you're powering.
  2. Is your subwoofer pulling more power through that circuit than the rating on the fuse that was in the circuit? For example, I believe mine had a 10 amp fuse in that slot. How much amperage is your subwoofer pulling?

Yes, I used a piggy back tap and the powered sub is drawing power directly from the battery. The fuse tap is only used to send a 12 volt signal to the remote power in to turn the sub on.

I’m not an expert but from what I’m gathering, your #3 fuse is tapped and ran essentially to a relay that switches on when the car is powered on, which is than allowing your subwoofer to pull from the battery? My lights are set up that way and I have had zero issues and even if so, I don’t see how that would cause your bronco to not shut off.
did they unplug your tap and put the original fuse in and it fixed it?

You’re absolutely right, I just went to the Dealership to pick up my Bronco, (the Dealership was closed) and now it won’t start, the dash lite up like a Xmas tree with bells and whistles going off and it will not power down. Going back in the morning and having a one way conversation with a Service Manager!

They pulled the taps and put the fuse back in and told me it was fixed. Charged me $222.00 because it was my fault and not covered under warranty. Yeah like I said I’m not an expert but that does not sound like it has anything to do with tapping into the #3 or at least not as simply as they are making it sound. If it was the reason than them putting the original fuse in and removing your tap, would have not resulted in what you discovered upon pick up. Definitely interested in how your situation plays out I’m sorry you’re having to deal with any of it!!

I haven't tapped into fuse #3 but that really doesn't make any sense at all. I am surprised they didn't replace the battery, update the PCM software and reset the BMS. Following to see what the REAL fix is. Good luck

Not recommended to drive the vehicle when the condition (of not shutting off) occurs. Best to have it towed to the dealership.

have the dealership read this, can be a variety of possible causes

After reading that it got me curious as to what fuses are next to the #3 and it looks like the ignition switch fuse is #4, total shot in the dark but maybe something got bumped or knocked loose when dealing with #3 ?

It’s possible and maybe a short could have occurred
A strong flashlight on the fuse panel might reveal something

also … I recall another owner that connected to fuse #3 but due to the somewhat “hard to visually align graphics” with the diagram found he was actually on the wrong fuse

Dealers have been known to frantically look for any excuse to blame the owner.

Tapping that fuse is very common and there is absolutely NO WAY it would cause the problem you experienced.

After they find the actual problem (if they are capable of doing so) , if they refuse to refund your $222, dispute the charge with your credit card company. In addition, you might file a complaint with the BBB and your state AG's office; as well as posting reviews on the usual sites.

Dealers have been getting away with crap like this for far too long.

I agree with all of you on this topic, as it would have to be proven that your wire splice modification caused the issue that you are experiencing, and want it repaired under warranty.

However, I have been on dozens of forums in my past (30+ years worth), and have read on how an owner modified something on their warrantied vehicle, only to have a savvy service manager tell them that the warranty will not cover any modified section of the vehicle that was changed from OEM.

Examples:

Exhaust, if aftermarket pipes/mufflers were installed, the warranty for exhaust was nullified.

If an after market radio or sound system was installed, the entire electrical system warranty was nullified.

If the suspension (raised/lowered) was modified, the suspension warranty was nullified.

No wonder the ford account on here is always praising photos of peoples modified broncos ?
