Well its been about 2 weeks since I picked up the BS from the dealership after the install of the new APIM. The screen has been black 3 or 4 times. The first time was within in 10 days of the "repair". Not sure what my next move will be. Very disappointing and frustrating.

Not sure you have a lot more choices than back to a dealership.. either same one or a different one. Perhaps the root of the issue was not the APIM?

Hi there, Lisa. This blank screen concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Bronco Sport. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? To send a private message, just click on our username and select "Start Conversation". I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

I had a similar problem on my wife's '20 Ecosport. I took it to the dealer where I bought it about a year ago. They fooled around with it for a couple of days and replaced the APIM. That lasted about a month and then went black again. You could do a quick reset and it would be OK for a while. I decided to live with it till this spring. Then I tried to re-set the clock for daylight savings time. The clock would revert back to the incorrect time. I was now fed up and went to a different dealer (where I bought my Bronco Sport). He had the vehicle 1 day, updated the sync to version 3.4 23188. Problem solved!

This has been happening with the wife's 2021 BS BL also almost every time she'd start the car the radio would come on. She also had this problem with her 2018 Edge Titanium she traded it for the BS. She said she was getting afraid she was going to be stranded like the Edge did one time so we traded it for a 2024 Honda Passport.

The radio issue is a SYNC 3 problem, not a powertrain control module problem. This has been an ongoing bugaboo with every SYNC 3 vehicle we’ve owned. I’ve isolated the conditions which cause it:

  1. You are listening to media on a phone you have plugged in to SYNC.
  2. You shut the engine off; the media continues to play (this is normal; whatever you’re listening to will continue to play for 15 minutes or so after engine shut down).
  3. You open the door before you unplug your phone and SYNC shuts down while playing media from your phone.
  4. The next time you get in the car you start it before plugging your phone in. SYNC attempts to play the last program it was playing when it shut down, but it can’t find your phone since it isn’t plugged in.
  5. Since it can’t find your phone it goes to the next input with media playing, which happens to be the radio.
The solution is to either stop playback on your phone media, or unplug your phone before you open the door after engine shut down. Since I started doing this the radio has never spontaneously turned itself on after engine start.

I know it's not a PCM problem since we've had the same problem with the 2018 Edge we had. The wife has never had her phone plugged into the car and didn't active android auto. The only connection her phone had to the car was blue tooth for hands free phone usage. Ford has no ideal what the problems are either and it does appear they care to find out.

I took the BS back to the dealership on Monday and they found another failed component. The parts finally arrived yesterday at 3p. They said that they would the parts installed and then reprogram everything. Hopefully, I will get it back sometime next week.
They did provide a loaner, but the AC doesn't work. We have had highs in the 90s with heat indexes in the triple digits. Thankfully I have my '19 Ranger to drive while the BS is out of commission.

Got the BS back today. They had to replace the instrument cluster because a bad gateway caused it to fail.
Time will tell if the third time is the charm. First time was updating the Sync. Second time was the APIM. Third time instrument cluster and gateway.

Had this same problem. Screen going blank, radio issues, etc…. On my BS with Heritage trim

Took it to the dealer last week for the recent recall (BCM) and had them address the issues infotainment system issues at the same time.

They said it was a software issue. Haven’t had a problem with it since. Fingers crossed, it will stay that way.
