Wait...so these accessories literally just stick on, and the dealer was trying to charge ~3.5 hours labor for this? Either they were taking advantage of the situation and trying to make up for labor they short-charged on other jobs, or they flat-out hate this type of work and over charge hoping customers will not have them do the installs. There are shops that freely admit to way over-pricing work in the hope the customer will go elsewhere [instead of simply telling a customer they do not want to do the job...which would be preferable.]

Honestly, these types of accessories could probably be installed by the employees working in the detail bay as opposed to using a service tech. Then the labor charges quoted by Ford would make more sense.

Just wait, I got a bill for $800 for a "in-warranty repair" that the Service Manager said was "damage". So I complained to the owner, very nicely, and then got a refund. Next the Service Manager told me to "never come back" that they "have the right to refuse service". Called FORD, wrote a letter to FORD, sent a letter to the Attorney General and so far after 6 months no response from anyone. Nearest dealer is 4 hours away one way, so if I want any service by FORD, it will be an 8 hour drive. Ask me why Honda is starting to look better. By the way I am 73 and have driven Ford since my first 1960 Thunderbird.

My dealership went so far as to have themselves removed from the order/ship to drop down on the accessories website. The parts department did order what I wanted but wanted to charge more for the accessories and labor than was listed on the website. I challenged it with management and they did eventually honor the listed prices for the accessories to include the listed labor charges. I paid with my points.
I'm surprised dealers get away with stuff like that. I guess people are uninformed or just don't care.

I tried picking up some oil, an oil filter and crush washer for my Honda. The local dealer was charging about twice as much as Honda's list price for the filter and crush washer, let alone the discounted price I was paying online. I came out way ahead just ordering it online and paying shipping. They even throw in the crush washer for free.

Think you have it pegged. Service manager only wants high dollar jobs, so either make the customer overpay on accessory installations or go elsewhere.

That's nuts. Love my BS, but I'd switch to Honda or another reliable make/dealer myself once it was financially possible if that happened. Hope you have a reputable local chain that'll take care of oil changes, tire rotation and other basic routine maintenance. Guess keeping their brand loyal customers isn't a thing anymore with Ford.

Have zero doubt the service department sticks it to anyone that hasn't done their homework or won't speak up for themselves.

That reliable service is now preformed by ME. No travel time and I am sure it is done right without damage. My Dealer's guy didn't adjust the lift and raised the hoist up into my Emmisions Cannister under the car, breaking it, then they charged me for the new one and labor. When I complained, they admitted it, but said they wanted no future drama and that I was no longer welcome. Crazy. Filed complaints but to no avail. Oh well, since my 16th I have been loyal to FORD, and that is a whole list of them. No more. LOL
