Our unusually mild Winter has caused a rare mega-bloom of roadworks. Our version of Fall foliage, I suppose.

I thought construction season in Phoenix was year round. I must have missed a week or two that they were off season.

Daytime work is mostly restricted to cooler months. Summer sees predominantly nighttime projects.

That makes sense. I’ve seen it most time of year out there but didn’t pay attention day or night. I try to avoid July and August there as well.

Living in SoCal my first 44 years (East LA/San Diego), I grew accustomed to road projects starting 30 years late, leaving 30% unfinished, and requiring an additional 30 cents gas tax to pay for it.

Arizona blows me away on major highway projects. Always under time and under budget, and always getting upgrades every ten years or so.

People in NM ask where the state stores all of those construction barricades. The answer is, on the roads. NM is number one in lots of bad things, like violent crime, and number 48 or worse on good things, like well maintained roads and good education.
I can’t speak about all the roads in NM, but 40 for sure is bad. Unfortunately, this is the case for most of it. It has such a huge amount of truck traffic going from the west coast to the east coast. This seems to be the case with most of the interstates. I typically cut off at Tucumcari on 54 on my way back north. I can’t handle 40 all the way into OK city.
