I found this rear defroster wire protector on Amazon and used it as inspiration to create a 3D-printable version:

https://www.amazon.com/Jimen-Compatible-2021-2023-Windshield-Protector/dp/B0C6XPHBP5

The model prints in two pieces, requires no supports, and attaches with automotive double-sided tape. I printed mine in PETG for better heat resistance.

If you'd like to print a set, you can download it for free here:

Feedback and suggestions are always welcome!

One suggestion is perhaps have the edges a little more rounded. This might help deflect incidental contact and prevent damage perhaps. For example, when you are loading something big.

Secondly, a little bragging on my son. He dabbles in 3D printing and he made this Hulk Buster Iron Man. He did the 3D printing and a buddy did the painting.

Hi Jim, that is a great job! Congratulations to your son!

About your suggestion, I've added an untested rounded version of the protector here:

A little beta testing for you. My son finally made the rounded one for me. I will not be mounting this because he used PLA filament which is not UV resistant. It would warp and eventually start disintegrating. They do make a heat and UV resistant filament that will hold up against that. However, as you will see in the pictures without any pressure on it, it does not lay flat. The 3M tape will hold it down for a while, but every time the window or hatch is lifted, it will put tension on the cover. I took a side view pic without me pushing down and then one with me pushing it flat. A third pic is of a folded receipt in the gap without forcing it down. You see the cord pushing it outwards.
Edit: pics posted out of order. Pic 1 with receipt, pic 2 pushed down, pic 3 showing how cord pushes it away from the window. Thanks.

yes get him to make it out of PETG, or if he is setup to print ASA that is better yet. I think a black carbonfiber petg or ASA would look awsome.

We made it out of what my son had. I just wanted to test fitment. Since I am not going to mount it, what he had was good enough to see how it fit.
