just got back from a 9 day road trip and camping vacation. we were camping off of forestry roads in the rocky mountains in british columbia. got to see some very beautiful places off the highways. got lost once, only to end up in an open mine operation. duddes were great and showed us how to get back to the highway. also drove up an atv trail for some time without realizing it lol.
overall bronc sport was flawless. no hiccups or weird stuff/noises. we were in some very rough unmaintained roads sometimes for hours, and it never let us down. avg 9.5L/100km. only saw one other BS, everything in bc is 4runners and tacomas.
rooftop tent is a smittybuilt 2 person overland tent. ordered on amazon and here in 3 days. easy to setup, comfy as heck and made us feel safe in grizzly territory.
anyone that says bronco sport is a pavement queen, is dead wrong. i dont think people realize what lil beasts these things are, and reliable to boot! people - get out and enjoy your sport!!!

This is what my wife and I want to do in a couple of summers. We want to head west from Ontario too BC avoiding pavement where possible and make a right turn someplace in BC and go up to the Yukon. Havenā€™t been that way yet and think it would be fun.

one thing i will also addā€¦
going up and down mountain/hilly roads, the trans and engine seemed to work pretty hard. i popped it in sport mode and it was awesome. mpg went up somewhat.

I'm up and down steep Mountain roads daily. When crawling on loose steep gravel low and slippery mode work for me.
When climbing on pavement in normal mode my 1.5L shows no sign of any struggle at all. With eight gears it seems to always hold the engine in the power band never lugging.
When I use sport mode there is a bit less shifting.
I think in the 1,800 to 2,500 rpm range the engine is doing just fine.
Under the same conditions and speeds and grades Sport mode holds mine up say,, 2,800 to 3,500 rpm's.
I would agree that these higher rpm's would be better when climbing if our Sports were loaded with gear and/or ppl.

Update: we did a little map dreaming tonight and found Dempster Highway to Inuvik from Dawson City. 740 km of dirt road! There is a highway there to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean. That is a bucket list trip.

I love seeing this! We just got our badlands and have been rooftop tent camping in my tundra for years. Iā€™d love to know what all was involved in being able to put your tent on top. I have Yakima heavy duty bars on my truck but wonder what I need to put on top of the spirt to support the weight of the tent plus the wife and I. Surely the stock bars and strong enough, are they?
