Just a heads up to Bronco sport owners. A customer came to us with a 2019 Ranger that has been wearing tires out every 20K miles. We checked the alignment and found it was toed out excessively. As the new owner of a 2022 Bronco Sport with only 600 miles on it I thought I would check the alignment specs. I did the alignment and found the toe of the front wheels to be toed out .75 of a degree. To anyone not familiar with front end alignments this is an excessive amount of toe out. This will cause a lot of wear to the inside of the tires. I will be confirming the issue with my son's 2022 Bronco sport next week to see if he has the same settings on the front end. Please check your tire wear to save yourself money on premature tire wear.

Nice heads up.... But maybe this will give me a justification for buying new A/T tires when the stock wear out early............ :p

I had a tire wear problem on a new Ford a few years back and it was explained to me that new car assembly line settings don't necessarily meet road alignment specs. I've taken my new cars into the alignment shop when I get them ever since.

I think someone was pulling your leg. You can watch countless videos of automotive production lines at the end of which there is almost always an alignment rack. It's possible a vehicle's alignment was bumped out of spec during shipment, but vehicles leaving the assembly plant should be ready to drive, which means wheel alignment within spec.

Thanks for the heads up. I had my Jeep Patriot 7 years and never needed an alignment , just checked the tires for wear which they wore evenly so I kinda forget about it. I just picked up my Big Bend on Monday so when I bring it in for it's 1st oil change I'll have them check it out.

I’ve had mine aligned twice and going for a third. It pulls bad when trying to accelerate and go around someone or pass them. Wants to pull you into the car you’re passing or off the road. It just picks a side and pulls hard to that side. Is dreadful torque steer, like high power fwd car without lsd. Feels like all the power shifts to one side of the vehicle and pulls/pushes you that direction. My tires wear fine and tracks straight otherwise and is in spec. Did this right off the truck and continues after the lift. I know others have this too, just no fix.

I'm sure they do some sort of check, but assembly line settings don't necessarily meet road alignment specs. There are too many opportunities for the front end to get out of wack before the owner picks up the car to assume its' ok until a set of tires are ruined.

Alignment will not fix torque steer. I don’t know what has been done to suspension design in the last 20 years that has made high horsepower hatchbacks (up to about 300 HP now) have little, or no, torque steer. I don’t think that Ford applied that technology to the front suspension in the BS.

I'm not disputing that a new car might need an alignment. Something might happen while loading/unloading for shipping, bushings can settle in after driving for a few miles, etc. But I'm very skeptical of claims the factory doesn't align the vehicle to specs prior to signing off on it. That seems like a pretty basic part of production to me.

Thank you for clarifying. I'm really just making the point that a person shouldn't assume a vehicle is aligned just because it is new. A dealer may not admit there is a problem or align it until the damage is done.

No doubt. It's also true you may not even know the car is out of alignment. Not all alignment issues result in adverse driving characteristics. Then again, wheel alignment is one of those "problems" that a lot of shops like to scam people with. For example:

Glad you chimed in on that. Alot of people think a vehicle is only out of alignment if they can feel it. My Dad used to let go of the wheel when he was driving as a check. If the car veered one way or the other he thought that mean the front end was out. It took me years to realize it had more to do with the banking of the road than the alignment. It's hard to let go the idea of the old man knowing everything.

This is untrue. A highly sophisticated laser system is used. It usually comes from cars being tied down on trucks

I appreciate the explanation of the cause the misalignment. It is surprising this isn't checked as a matter of course when a new car is unloaded at the dealership.
