I have received an active recall message in the Ford pass app that was issued 2024-02-12 for the BCM and PCM calibration updates. Next time I go in for service I'll see about having it done.

I just got off the phone with a Ford dealer. I asked if they would do a mobile service on the 24S24 update and was told yes, they do mobile but the update was paused. I told the rep that Ford resumed the update and they didn't know. I was told I'll get a call for the mobile update when available.
i think that is best .. to wait a bit

There is some confusion on the recall stop work .. most people report they were told the recall is on hold but one said it went on hold then the hold was removed but my guess is it still is on hold

My plan is to get the recall done 3Q when the summer heat has passed (for now I turn off Auto Stop/Start). … Maybe I can get the dealership to replace my battery under warranty if it fails this summer. ?

I too got the recall message on Ford Pass for the 24S24 recall and called my dealer service center this morning. I made an appointment for tomorrow morning. An hour later the service advisor called me back to tell me Ford sent them a notification to pause this service. He said they just received it. He recommended I keep in touch or just wait till my next service. Alrighty then.

Received an email from NHTSA regarding 12 volt battery recall that affects 2021 - 2024 Bronco Sports built through March 13, 2024. Owner notification letters to be mailed after May 13, 2024.

I had my recall performed yesterday. I am just reading some of this conversation now. They said nothing about a stop to the recall, due to issues. What I will say is in my perception the car has become MUCH smoother in shifting. Not sure if the reprogramming was supposed to affect that or not, but my car drive way better. Has anyone else had positive results from the recall?

Transmission computer gets reset during the recall and needs to relearn your driving pattern.

Thanks, “I pledge to drive like a little ole man” for a while to keep the smooth shifting as I have been thinking I had transmission issues. Dude, do you know if there is way to reset the transmission again with a dealer visit? Thanks in advance.

Apparently the pause was lifted 5/24...dealer did the work for me yesterday 5/28. Hoped it would fix the non-functioning stop-start, but no, and I STILL get the message "Engine on due to battery charging", and yes I put miles on it.

I had the mobile service done a couple weeks back and it was painless. Of course the BCM/PCM updates undid my change to have the powerports timeout from 6 seconds back to the default of over an hour. (This is not ideal because I have a dashcam, radar detector, and a WeBoost cell phone booster. The other two sip power relatively to the cell phone booster, which has a draw of 1.8 amps @ 12V.)

I think it may have raised the state of charge that Ford uses for the battery, but that's speculation until I get a battery tester out a few hours after a good drive. I have observed that I will see voltage values (via my "cigarette lighter" 12V splitter, which has a display of the voltage where it's plugged in) more frequently now at 13.X volts rather than 14.X volts while the alternator is running.

Regarding auto start stop ... My 2023 with low miles wasn't working, with message "engine on due to battery charging". Tech charged the battery, ASS worked! He said drive more. But the next day, ASS not working again.
Did the recall, figured that would fix it. Nope.
Another visit, finally they replaced the battery. ASS has been working for over a week, no more messages.
So maybe the battery IS an issue.

Glad you seem to have it fixed!

In an attempt to clarify -- the battery is always the problem. The question is:

a) did the battery fail due to an internal flaw (like shorted plates), and that went undetected, or
b) did the (perfectly good) battery fail because the charging system repeatedly failed to charge it fully?

The use of the word "sudden" in the recall (sudden decrease in SOC; sudden degradation) strongly implies that defective batteries are the primary cause, and the failure of the charging system to detect that failure is secondary.

However, as others have mentioned as well, internal failures are not common. Batteries typically die a slow gradual death. So I suspect that whoever wrote the recall chose the wrong wording.

In fact, I discovered different language on the Ford "Loss of Power" recall page:

"The current software for the Body Control Module and Powertrain Control Module is unable to detect — and thus compensate for — the decreasing performance in the life of a 12-volt battery. This could result in the vehicle unable to restart while using the Auto Start-Stop Technology or stalling while coming to a stop at low speeds. This is accompanied by a loss of 12-volt accessories like lights, radio, air conditioning etc."
https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/recall/recalls-and-faqs/24s24-bronco-sport-2021-2024-and-maverick-2022-2023-loss-of-power-recall/

That's much better. At least it describes a more likely scenario.

I'd expect the opposite -- more frequently at 14.X volts after the recall.
