  1. Loud exterior rattle at freeway speed

It’s amazing what they’ll put on a vehicle to get a couple of tenths more mpgs out of it lol
  2. Loud exterior rattle at freeway speed

I have experienced this in both the sport and a previous escape. I have narrowed it down to the covers that run the length of the vehicle on the driver and passenger side. they arent bolted per se, they just have kinda like a push nut on a ribbed stud. I think wind gets in there and flutters...
  3. Difference between lane keeping and lane centering

I’ve found that the lane centering is ok for interstate type highways but on curvy country roads it sucks. Just another feature that I think is unneeded, as I feel the more features a car has to make you a “safer” driver, in reality makes you a worse driver as you tend to rely on the car to...
  4. extended uphill + downshift

100% normal for a new car to burn off various chemicals/lubricants off the exhaust from manufacturing. Nothing gets the exhaust good and hot like a hard mountain pull. Btw, you should see the smoke that pours off a brand new motorcraft reman engine once it warms up. They coat the manifolds...
  5. Oil Separator for Ecoboost

You’ve obviously never seen inside the intake system of pretty much any Diesel engine. Diesels have run crankcase breathers that dump before the turbo long before direct injected gasoline engines were even thought of. It’s nothing to get half a quart of oil/water mix that sits in the bottom of...
  6. G.O.A.T Mode Shifting points

lol ours just turned 1000 miles and I have putted around in it during the break in period (im sure my wife hasn’t though). I’m gonna put it in sport and shower down on it and see what the little 3 banger is made of!
  7. G.O.A.T Mode Shifting points

I have scoured the workshop manual for any mention of the GOAT mode selector and have come up with nothing. The only thing mentioned is the sport button in the center of the gear selector knob. It gives no indication of a set gear shift schedule with sport mode, only the PCM/TCM will determine...
  8. Greetings from NC

Welcome! I’m from good ol N.C. too!
  9. Unofficial MPG thread for the 1.5L

Haha I’m glad I’m not the only one who deals with this. I got tired of every time we got in the car to go somewhere the car was sucking fumes. So I’ll take it and go fill it up, as it will give me a chance to take a gander and see if anything is wrong with the car. So yeah my wife is...
  10. Oil Separator for Ecoboost

if the engine has the dual fuel injectors, than a catch can is a waste of money. I’m really not sold on the catch can idea anyway. Yeah i can see it catches a lot of crap. But honestly running a premium synthetic oil (will have a much higher vapor point) and a good Italian tuneup every tank of...
  11. Oil Drain Plug not magnetic?

I would imagine that since the engine is almost all aluminum other than the rotating mass, there is no need for a magnetic drain plug. I’ve worked on various Fords for years in a fleet and there hasn’t been a magnetic drain plug in quite some time. Well I take that back...the diesel pickups...
  12. extended uphill + downshift

Yeah black mountain will pull the sap out of a vehicle for sure. We went up 421 to boone. Pretty good pull but not black mountain lol
  13. Outer Banks vs. Badlands

Coming from the 1.5 4cyl in an escape, I was rather impressed with the power with one less cylinder. It has around 700 miles on it and it is already getting better mpg (hand calculated)than the escape did. I think the 8 speed is a good match for the little 3 banger.
  14. extended uphill + downshift

We took ours up to the nc mountains this last weekend. It only had 300 miles on it, and being my wife’s, I’m sure she had been putting around in it. Needless to say, once we reached the top of the mountain the exhaust system definitely had the new burnt off! It pulled the mountain pretty...
  15. Is the BS 1.5L EcoBoost the same 1.5L that have had coolant leak issues?

I may have figured out the confusion…the 1.5 3cyl duratec (non ecoboost) does in fact have a timing belt. That engine would be used in the ecosport. However it does not have the cylinder deactivation feature. Maybe that might be why the ecoboost has a chain and the duratec has a belt. That’s...
  16. Is the BS 1.5L EcoBoost the same 1.5L that have had coolant leak issues?

100% correct. And the oil pump is belt driven and the balance shaft (#10 on second pic)is gear driven. It’s definitely busy behind the timing cover on this little guy ?
  17. Is the BS 1.5L EcoBoost the same 1.5L that have had coolant leak issues?

Here is a couple of pics of the timing set up and oil pump setup
  18. Is the BS 1.5L EcoBoost the same 1.5L that have had coolant leak issues?

According to the Ford workshop manual, direct from Ford, this engine has a timing chain. However, the oil pump is belt driven off the crank shaft behind the timing chain sprocket.
  19. Cloud-based maintenance log

I use an app called road trip, I think it was like a $10 one time purchase, but it will do fuel mileage, maintenance reminders, keep up with any costs, and many other things. I have used it for years and it syncs to Dropbox if I remember correctly. But I have been very pleased with this app.
  20. Hello from N.C.!

Yeah we were looking at a base model at Crossroads, but they jerked us around for about 4 hours. So I found a big bend in A51 at another dealer. After doing everything over the phone, we were in and out at the dealer in about an hour and a half. It was even the color that she was dying to have!
