This is my 3rd Bronco Sport Badlands and this one has a few quirks!
When I go to pump fuel, then go to pay inside the store, leaving my phone and keys inside, when I come back to the vehicle the darn vehicle has me locked out. It is all in under 10 minutes. I used to be able to do that with my 2021 & 2023 no problem, but this vehicle has a mind of its own. I have looked through all the settings on the screen and I can not find a reason why it is doing it. Also, I hate the seat belt that yaps at me if I don't buckle up ever time I get in and out of it when I am doing yard work. It is a pain. Any way to make it only chine 3 times? And L0L, twice now the passenger seat back has laid back on itself. I go to get into the vehicle and it is reclined. I have a ghost maybe.

Self-reclining seat is odd

there is a Sync setting to lock/unlock only drivers door or all 4-doors but nothing else related as you might might be looking for
(ā€˜21-ā€˜24 models have that Sync setting, not sure about 2025-26)

my guess you have the setting to unlock only lock drivers side door so when you shut off the vehicle, and get out the other 3 doors are locked but you could have it set to unlock all 4 doors - next time it happens check if any of the other 3 doors are also locked and match that up with the setting previously mentioned

And when you are exiting the vehicle, I think you are accidentally hitting the lock switch on the inside of the drivers door which is why when you come back you’ll sometimes find the drivers door locked

Nope, tried and checked that. Tried setting it both ways, all doors are locking so I can not get in. It shouldn't lock if the key is in it at all, but it does. I think it is computer related. And no I am not hitting the lock switch. It is the strangest thing. I am hoping Ford reads this posting and can figure it out. Dealership can't. It happens all the time after so many minutes, but shouldn't if the key is inside it. Thanks for trying to help me out.

You'd better stay quiet about it. It might report you to law enforcement. Kidding. We love our 2026 Badlands. Maybe cause we wear our seat belts and don't leave the keys in the car (isn't that a good way to get your car stolen?). I hope you and you BL can become friends again.

It sounds to me like the vehicle is trying to stop it from being stolen?
If it's off and you leave the keys and exit vehicle. It's probably some weird anti-theft logic in the software.
Why are you leaving your let fob in the vehicle? Do you want it to be stolen???
Just thoughts!

L0L, I turned off that part where it sends back info on what I am doing L0L. This happens even when I am driving around my property with a trailer attached, picking up branches etc, going in and out of the vehicle. Is a pain to have put my seat belt on whe. I am on the grass not the road, and being locked out makes me say nasty words. I am from a very small village of 60 people, so no worry about vehicle being stolen. So with the keys in it on my own property is a BIG PAIN!

I live in a village of 60 people, no problem of it getting stolen. But, why does it also do it when I am on my own acreage? Like when one is going in and out moving ot 20 to 30 ft to pick up sticks. The vehicle is not supplse to lock it the key is in it. It has to be in the software. I'll be taking it to the dealer soon, but would like to know what is causing it so I can point them in the right direction instead of having to leave it at the dealership for a week. I need my vehicle every day. None of my last 2 Bronco Sports have done this. They were smart enough to know the keys were inside and not lock it. Does anyone have this problem wirh theirs??

I also wear my seat belt all the time when driving, but not on my own property due to the amount of times I get in and out doing yard work. It is a pain, and the warning of the belt not buckled up goes on forever. My other 2 shut up after 3 warnings.

The vehicle will be locked with the keyfob inside when after coming to a stop and shutting off the engine, then exiting the drivers door - the inside mechanical drivers door lock is either accidentally or intentionally pressed to the lock position - exit vehicle and close drivers door

Been reported by many owners on this forum - I tried it too and the vehicle will be locked with keyfob inside the vehicle

I have the external keypad on drivers door so would be easy for me to open the doors

without an external keypad, selecting the sync setting to unlock all doors is best option for someone that leaves the keyfob inside the vehicle

I am NOT accidentally pressing or hitting the lock on the door. The vehicle is NOT supposed to lock the doors with the keys inside. I have the sync setting to unlock ALL doors. I don't have an outside keypad.m, but that has nothing to do with why it is doing it. If I get out, pick up a stick, throw it into tje trailer, go to get back in and the darn thi g has locked my doors. Only takes me 15 seconds as I have timed it. It is a gawd awful pain to have it lock up like this. I wonder how those who have had this happen also get around it? It should not lock the doors with the keys still in it.

I like to keep the key in my pocket so when Im working it can be bumped and set the alarm off. My neighbours especially like it at night when Im taking my pants off. Sometimes I even hear it lol.

Here’s my two cents…I think it’s a security feature . I never lock my BS when parked in the garage. I went out to move , and found my doors locked..thought my keys were in my bag. When I couldn’t find my keys I went and got the spare ones . Because being me they were probably somewhere in the sofa. Lo and behold they were in the cup holder. So I guess when you forget your keys in the BS it goes into safety mode. Just my two cents.

Poor you, I know the pain. But it shouldn't lock if the keys are in.

It does indeed lock with the keyfob inside by following the procedure I posted earlier, try it yourself

I didn’t believe it either but I’ve since come around after trying on my own vehicle

besides what I listed, it’s possible you have a low keyfob battery (unlikely on a new ā€˜26) or a defective receiver module (possible), and of course a keyfob in an RF shielded container

Let’s see what your dealership finds, please post the results after it’s solved
