At the dealer now. They said it could take up to 5 hours. I’m guessing that the book rate Ford allows, so they want to milk that as much as they can. I told them it shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.

I’m curious if I had done it myself using FDRS+Mongoose, would it have been recorded as completed? Just read online that self recall updates will not be recorded as completed.

It depends on whether they have to update other modules first to get the IPC update to release.

As far as DIY with FDRS, I am not sure. You can update the module yourself to satisfy the recall for sure, but recording it as completed may not be possible according to this excerpt from the dealer bulletin (attached):

Ford Bronco Sport Recall: Instrument Cluster Panel Display Failure (NHTSA Recall 25V788) -- 2025-2026 Bronco Sport 1764945549109-zd

I'll see what I can find out about a non-dealer FDRS login doing this. Mostly curious. Most people will not take this route.

Edit: Seems like it cannot be cleared from the VIN if you DIY with FDRS. At least not right away. Dealer may have to clear it in a future visit, or maybe when the OTA gets sent and syncs up the data it will clear.

UPDATE

Time in: 7:45
Time out: 10:00

Apparently, the Ford backend was giving them troubles.

Interesting, page 2 shows no OTA or mobile repair.

How long does it take for the backend system to reflect the recall has been completed?

Both Ford and NHTSA still show the recall incomplete.

Which is silly, imo. I have no idea why this states that it cannot be done by a mobile tech or an OTA, but I will have to digress on that.

I'm guessing since the cluster is contains safety related functions, and if the update bricks the cluster and renders the vehicle undrivable, it would open Ford to lawsuits.

Subsystem in ClusterClassificationReason
SpeedometerSafety-related (ASIL B / Class B)Driver needs accurate speed info
Warning lights (ABS, airbags, brakes)Safety-critical (ASIL C / Class C)Alerts to life-critical faults
Fuel & temp gaugesOperational (ASIL B / Class 2)Prevents breakdowns, overheating
Infotainment displayComfort (ASIL A / Class 1)Non-safety, convenience features

Better than any theory I can come up with, but Ford has been sending IPC updates via OTA to Sync 4 vehicles for 4-5 years now and it has been very efficient. The IPC is connected to the network via both CAN and ethernet, so the files write while the vehicle is on and running. The chances of an IPC bricking during an update are very slim since it does not require the vehicle to go into inhibit mode when done via OTA.

Edit: Correction: There are some files to the IPC that have to be written by CAN, so an IPC OTA will put the vehicle in inhibit mode.

Now both the Ford and NHTSA web sites are unable to retrieve recall information.

We are not able to retrieve recall information for the VIN you have entered
An error occurred with your request. Recall information for your vehicle is not available at this time. Please contact Ford Motor Company by phone at 1-866-436-7332 or go to their website http://www.Fordowner.com for recall information about your vehicle.

Ford site still reporting it cannot retrieve information.

NHTSA site now reports no open recalls.

Update done. In and out of the Sanderson Ford service center in 48 minutes.

The longest part of the process was waiting for the response/confirmation code from Ford.

Had mine done last Friday. I was scrolling thru the cluster info and noticed that my oil life reading is 36%. It was around 90% before I had this done.

Only around 600 miles since the previous oil change.

Also, my passenger side rear TPMS is reading 3 PSI higher than the actual pressure.

All the tires are aired to 33 PSI.

So obviously the update screwed these parameters up. Going to have to call the dealer and see what they say. Probably another trip back to see them.

Beware and check your cluster info. Will keep this issue updated here.

Ditto. Had oil changed the week prior and oil level was set back to 45%, which makes me think the update process does not store the current oil life and simply performs a new calculation based on mileage. I manually reset it back to 100%. Not sure if FORScan can set it to non zero number, but it's close enough.

I'm curious how long it takes the MHSTA site to reflect the updated repair status. Anyone know?
