Looks like an exciting upgrade!

I normally would jump on this but I have to ask..

Besides wireless CarPlay, what would I be gaining? I'm not a fan of wireless right now. And I almost exclusively use CarPlay.
This is my girl's truck and she is struggling with certain things with Sync 3. She cannot access the Sync menu while in CarPlay without unplugging her phone. She has some other complaints about it, but I can't remember what they were. She is familiar with Sync 4 from my F150, so when I asked her about upgrading it and she said yes, I was stoked because I enjoy taking on projects like this. I had already spoken to Jesse from Infotainment about a Sync 4 upgrade months ago and he told me they were working on it. When I reached to out him again a few weeks ago and he told me it was ready but not for public release, I quickly volunteered to be the guinea pig.

There are also a few things I have tried to configure with FORScan that do not work on Sync 3. I am hoping with Sync 4 I can get them to work. Sync 4 presents itself nicer overall than Sync 3. For me (well, for us), it will be well worth the upgrade, but not everyone will think the same.

If memory serves, there should be a Ford/SYNC icon in CarPlay that links back to the SYNC/vehicle settings with SYNC3. That option is not present in SYNC4.

With that out of the way, looking forward to see your report of the completed project.

Interesting. Sounds simple enough.......not sure if any of us ever noticed that. Too late to check now. Hopefully Sync 4 will be up and running tonight.

Well, hopefully the BS will be up and running tonight, too. I miss my truck and my girl is more than happy to put miles on my truck instead of hers in the meantime. 🤣

Some wrinkles need to be ironed out, but it works well overall. It's past 10pm for me, but after I shower and eat, I'm going to plug in my laptop with the test build FORScan sent me and see if I can connect to the APIM and add wifi and see if I can fix a few of the grayed out items.

Actually, the vehicle is talking to the cloud. Just ran the VIN through PTS and it reported itself to Ford at 9:42pm which was after I installed the new APIM. Not sure why the icons are red, but the TCU is working. I tried Fordpass and it works, so good to go there.

I got the missing wifi option fixed.

This was fixed by enabling CCS (Customer Connectivity Settings) here in the APIM.

Btw: FORScan added Sync 4 support for the 21-24 Bronco in their latest release. No need for a special test build anymore.

Ok, so in terms of the toggle switches that are grayed out, there is no way to fix that due to incompatibilities within the CAN bus network with the Sync 4 APIM. It will require a Genie Max which is an in-house module Infotainment makes for their kits but it will be months before it is ready for release for the BS. So, I assume it will also be months before Infotainment releases this to the masses as most people will not be satisfied with the product as it is.

Everything works.....I just cannot toggle certain things on and off in some of the menus. For example, the easy/entry exit feature that slides the seat back is grayed out and I cannot toggle the feature on and off. However, the feature itself works.

I also enabled the reverse mirror tilt function on the new APIM. The toggle switch is there, but I cannot turn it on and the mirrors do not tilt down when I put it into reverse even after running the programming procedure for them to work. I still think that for this to work, something needs to be reconfigured in the door modules, but I was not able to figure out how to do what with Sync 3 and it does ot seem the Sync 4 module made it any easier to get this function to work.

I'll keep messing with it and report back as I find stuff out.

Is the upper banner that shows the temperature setting always on wit Android auto or is that a Sync 4 addition? It’s the one big issue for me using Apple CarPlay and not having the temperature setting displayed on the knobs. I know……..real world problems. I’ve been contemplating just buying a 21 or 23 HVAC controller Off EBay.

It's part of Sync 4. It goes away with Android Auto or Carplay. Unfortunately, the 8" APIM does not support the UnReal theme. That's the first thing I asked about when speaking to them about this.

However, the 12" kit would come with an APIM that does support the unreal theme like on the 2025 BS, so you can have it look like this. I enabled it on my F150. Temps are always on the bottom no matter what. This screen from the F150 is the one they're going to use for the BS.
