Best thing that can happen for the dealer is for customers to walk on retail orders. They can charge what the market will bear at that point..

On a side note, I'm curious that they don't try to negotiate a higher than MSRP price at the time of order. It's almost like Ford has a policy or something.
I've wondered the same thing -- dealers are adding ADM to the sticker price of vehicles on their lot -- and getting it (or at least something over MSRP) -- so why not do the same with orders?

All I can figure is that Ford is really pressuring the dealers to hold to MSRP on all orders, but apparently they do not care much how dealers price in-stock vehicles.

Absolutely. That said I feel walking away is a valid option for customers, or at least in our case it is.

The buying process and peoples threshold for what they accept or need can vary a great deal. Like in our case all we cared about was the out the door price. Monthly payments, etc are not a factor. As it stand right now we are happy with the quoted out the door price. Will I push for the 1k off from Ford? For sure! Am I going to lose my mind if for some reason we don't get it? Not at all. Anything above the quoted price will be met with strong resistance.

Another factor is when people get too emotionally invested in the purchase. Recipe for getting ripped off if you ask me.

With regards to higher MSRP at time of order, I can't speak to Ford but I can say that is already happening to some degree for other vehicles. People are paying 25k ADM for allocation on a Porsche 911 GTS and consider that a "Good Deal". There are reports of at least one Toyota dealer taking orders for the Corolla hot hatch at a 10k markup. And the MSRP on those are not even announced! New Toyota 86? 2k for automatics, 4k for manuals.

You idea of completing review can help others know how a dealer fits for others. Glad Kyle helped you, he tried very hard to help everyone. I've been an example of helping others regardless. Gives you good Karma, lol. Plus he better, he's related to me. His brother is married to my daughter.
I wish I could leave a review of the dealership I used. The sales guy called me and asked why I had given a 4 on one of the survey questions. I told him it was because of the finance guy jerking me around and being unresponsive. He asked me to take a new survey and only give 5's because it only affects his pay, not the finance guy. It made me feel super uncomfortable. I will not be going back there . . . ever.

Wow the sticker on our sport was 38 and change. would be over 43 with the new pricing. was only a matter of time before manufacturers noticed what dealers were getting and adjusted their pricing accordingly. Unfortunately this is going to stick around quite a bit longer than adm.

Our salesman said the same thing -- he wanted all 5-star ratings. Had I completed the survey he would not have been happy. I did him a favor and did not fill it out -- in part because I cannot be absolutely, 100%, sure that he was aware of Ford's "Price Protection" and the $1,000 order credit. He's been a salesman for years, so I'm almost certain he as trying to commit fraud -- but not "beyond a shadow of a doubt."

Just curious, are you referring to Ford or someplace else? I plan to post my review of our dealer anyplace I can think of: Dealer Rater; Yelp; Google; the BBB, etc.

I realize there are people who have had good experiences with car dealers, but it's safe to say the negative far outweighs the positive. It's a real shame that dealers operate the way they do -- as if their customers are the enemy -- marks/suckers to be taken advantage of. To the extent employees at dealerships have a conscience they must have a hard time sleeping at night.

There's nothing wrong with making a buck -- enough to cover expenses plus a reasonable profit -- but that can be achieved while treating customers ethically. There is no need to lie, cheat, and steal.

This was a Ford dealership. I just don't feel comfortable enough to leave a review. They had so many add ons that I didn't even realize until after I left. Feel like I was totally taken advantage of. I have a BL on order with a dealership that I trust, but hadn't gotten a production date for 3 months and was getting worried. Now it is scheduled for the end of May. I want to see how much the one I have is worth at that time before I make any decisions. Would much prefer to give them my business.

I totally understand if you don't want to write a review (although you got a good start on one above). I was just trying to determine if you did not want to submit a review through Ford (their dealer survey) or anywhere at all -- because of course there are many places you can get a review published.

Personally, I did not complete the Ford survey for the reason I mentioned above. I'm giving the salesman (and the finance guy) a *HUGE* benefit of the doubt. They have years in the business. It is all but guaranteed that they were/are both fully aware that the BS qualifies for the $1,000 order credit, and that the salesman knows about Ford's Price Protection -- but, I cannot be absolutely, 100%, sure. It's difficult to give a "star" rating because if they were trying to defraud us that would be 0 stars (and ideally prosecution by the state), but in the extremely unlikely event that they are both incompetent/ignorant then it might be (say) 3 stars. So (in my case anyway) I figured I'd leave it alone.

I am definitely going to leave reviews all over the internet though. People can draw their own conclusions.

So my decked out BL that's being built 4/18 will get the price jacked up (unless the dealer honors the signed order)? Hmm...
You should be fine.
Firm 2022-model fleet, retail, and demonstrator orders signed and dated on or before April 12, 2022, and received by Ford Motor Company on or before April 18, 2022

Raked my dealership over the coals. 5 k markup talked down 4500, but then they added 2500 in additions that i didnt catch on final paperwork (my fault). Then proceeded to sell me Ford Protect but changed it to some third party assurant plan for double the price. Sales guys were awesome 5 stars... their finance i gave a 3 only cuz i knew it was my fault i signed for addon stuff (stargard, etc) without reviewing every line item.

Jesus your folks dealers are scum bags. I signed a order doc that shows MSRP at the time as $38,695. I put a grand down and I get a grand back. Before tax $36,695. My window sticker says $500 more over that, but my sales guy said don't worry about. It. They will make good. Also I hit my 90 day MCA membership x-plan eligibility on May 5th. So another grand off. I know my sales guy for 15 years and he is one of the dealers top guys. So I should be before tax at $35,695.

My same build today is $42,495. $3800 over my deliverable builds MSRP.

Finally all I need is them to not fudge around on my trade in. Give me the 41k for my 43k valued car and I am happy as a clam.

I have 16k in equity and then only need to sign up for 20k loan on the Bronco. .9% for 36mo on $20k loan is peanuts for a wanted truck.

Then if we hate the BS BL I will just sell it or trade it for over today's MSRP and have immediate 21k in equity toward what ever vehicle we do like. But pretty sure the Badlands is going to be perfect.
