Need advice. Am I getting "screwed"? Should I allow dealership to add this to new badlands I'm about to order?

Thanks for your reply! The sales guy said the "desert protection package" includes ceramic tinted windows... so maybe I should find out if ALL the windows... meaning the windshield and the side windows and the rear window will be ceramic tinted.. then maybe it is worth keepig this desert proctection package? I don't trust car dealership selling cars... this is why I rather go get my windows tinted elsewhere so I really know what I am really getting...
The Badlands already has the rear windows dark tinted. Only the fronts and the windshield are not.

No disrespect, I think you should hold off on placing an order until you have more information and understanding of what the Badlands comes with as standard equipment and what options are availabe.
Also understanding the add-ons a dealer might be trying to sell you as well as the cost.
As this thread grows you will gain more insight to help guide you in your decision. Some decent information has been relayed.
Have you driven any of the BS models?, some can be more plush depending on the model and package. Will you use the extra capabilities of the Badlands? if not you could save some money.
Just things to think about.

Also you had a warranty question, the initial warranty is provided by the factory. You can go to any Ford dealer for warranty claims and service.

An extended factory warranty can be had, the dealer will try to sell it to you.
Third party warranties are available as well.
The extended factory warranty and third party warranties can be shopped for best price and coverage, they do not have to be purchased when you buy your BS.

I test drove the base model of the BS. I did a lot of research on which BS I want and almost made the mistake of getting the outerbanks. I REALLY dislike the grille on all BS models below the BL. I MUCH prefer the "egg crate grille style" the BL has and the fact that I can get carbonized grey roof with the BL... also love the fact that the BL has NO carpet! I can't get that on the other models. I also do NOT want fabric seats. I know the OB can come with leather but it lacks the other things I prefer.

Not to mention I cannot justify spending so much money on a SUV that only has a 1.5L engine. The BL has a 2L and barely costs more. My current car has a 2L... I don't want to spend more money only to go "backwards"...

When I put the build together for what I want in the BL... I selected everything I specifically want. Thanks!

EDIT: I didn't realize or know if the rear windshield would actually be tinted... I see it is tinted in the photo on ford website... but I thought maybe it would not be and that you would have to request it to be tinted.

EDIT again: the entire above post is referring to the bronco sport. Just realized me writing "BL" might make some people think I'm referring to bronco bad lands and not bronco sport bad lands. Whoops.

Hello, I was in the same frame of mind before I bought my BS OB. Every make of SUV from European makers, Japanese and American had something I wanted. Power, style, luxury but after 3 weeks of shopping I made the decision to go BS. The choices were slim for Broncos but I needed to quit looking and get something. Nostalgia was a big factor in my purchase. And I admt a 3 cylinder just doesn't seem right but it grows on you. It's all about what u need to do with it. My OB is a commuter, it'll see asphalt and pavement for as long as I have it. It was made for Miami and I love it. I drove down to the Everglades today (250 mile r/t) and averaged over 33 mpg. That's doing 75 on the turnpike and somewhere between 55 and 65 the rest of the way.
The GOAT modes, especially Normal and Sport make it seem like it has two different engines. Plus it handles great, is quiet and has a great sound system. One thing that took some getting used to is the auto stop. I almost purchased the overide module but after getting used to it Ill never defeat its purpose. It only makes sense to use it, especially here in Miami where stop and go traffic is a second occupation. Well sorry for the long winded review, I could write a couple more paragraphs on the beast extolling it's virtues. It all comes down to your preferences. In my case my preference adjusted to the Bronco after I purchased it. Good luck on your purchase.

I'd be extremely appreciative for any advice possible. I'm a chick here by myself and don't trust car dealerships!! Want to make sure what the dealership told me is accurate and that I'm not being taken advantage of...

I'm about to order a brand new bronco sport badlands (I sent dealership the build I want). I'm getting it basically fully loaded minus things like "engine block heater" and no "cross bars" and no "splash guards" and no "assistance kit" and no "Center Console Vault" and no "Cargo Management System". I have NEVER ever bought a BRAND NEW car before.... usually buy used (I've leased car for the past several years so I'm very rusty when it comes to buying).

I live in arizona and the dealership added "desert protection package" (almost $1,200!) and also added (BT security system $700). This brings the total cost of the car from SELLING PRICE of $40,610 to $47,200 ... (included screen shot of the fees)

I'm going to be getting ceramic and carbon tinted windows done elsewhere (NOT at the dealership)... so I am confused why they are wanting me to pay for "desert protection package". Am I being played by them?

They also have a "VTR" ($300) and the "DOC FEE" ($500). I feel like this dealership might have me by the throat... want to make sure I'm not being taken advantage of! =(

Thanks in advance for any possible advice!

Are you in Phoenix? I have a recommended salesguy and dealership.
They honor all plans and no deposit to order, you can send me a message if you prefer and I will give you his name and info.

Ford Ranger,
Good advice here, I agree see if you can find a dealer that will sell you the car without extras. The VTR and the alarm would be no goes for me. If all dealers do the desert package maybe you can negotiate it lower.

Also, since you are ordering is the 1000.00 rebate available in your market?
I would second the using flood ford or zeigler ford for an extended warranty, if you are interested in getting one. Shopping for financing is also a way to keep the dealer honest.

Thanks so much for all the replies REALLY appreciate it!!!! Am I allowed to post link to the build I want on this forum? Not sure if forum allows this. But the car is $40,610 once I put in my build parameters.

... but this doesn't include the ($1,030) "fender flare kit II" I want because the ford website won't let me include that unless I REMOVE the "moon roof". So the sales guy said they will install the "fender flare kit II" at the dealership when car arrives. Below is photo of that fender... dealership said it'll be painted to be same color as AREA 51 body color... I really like how that fender looks.

So with this "fender flare kit II" added the vehicle cost is $41,640 before all the other fees were added.

I'm going to another dealership to get another quote to see if I have similar experience...

My wife loved the look of the fender flares on her BS OB (she went with fender flare kit 1). The dealer installed them and from day 1 the back drivers side had about a 2 mm gap. They tried to "correct" it but could not. We live in an area where they salt the roads so I had them removed for winter. 2 of them had a lot of dirt inside upon removal. We also ordered the front and rear splash guards (the mud flaps are larger). The factory only installed the rear splash guards because you cant have fender flares and splash guards. When the dealer removed the flairs they installed the front splash guards. I will need to do a small amount of trimming on the splash guards to get the flares back on in the spring.
Good luck with your build and remember the dealership and sales people are not your friends, I have a great relationship with mine but I keep on eye on them and one eye on my wallet when we do busines.

They're counting on you wanting the BL so badly that you'll put up with their fees. Just say NO to anything you don't want and be prepared to walk for a while - a battle of wills. Definitely shop around and if you're near a state border, go over it to see if doc fees are less. I did that and went from $700 doc fee max in CT, to $175 max in NY state - different states have different maximums. I custom ordered my BL last March and got them under MSRP and I'm a female too. It only takes them a short time to punch in the order, so they're certainly not earning the ridiculous $ gouging they're putting you through.

I ordered my badlands in Michigan but my sales person knew that I went to Arizona for the winter. She didn’t have me add any of that to my Bronco

Thanks for all the replies so far it has been VERY helpful!!

I went to another dealership and this new second dealership did NOT hit me with the “desert protection package” ( $1,197) or the “BT security system” ($699) nor did they hit me with “VTR” ($229) like the first dealership did. Ha! Guess the FIRST (old) dealership I went to really was toying with me.

Both dealerships matched the MSRP listed on ford. The only reason the VEHICLE SELLING PRICE is shown as being “cheaper” on FIRST dealership’s quote is because I forgot to add the “splash guards” to that build. MSRP for the vehicle is $40,830 when splash guards are included.

I’ve included screenshot below showing FIRST dealership vs SECOND dealership’s quote. I have 3 worries remaining:
  1. Second (new) dealership I went to says when I sign the below paper that I am “guaranteed” to be able to buy the vehicle at shown price without having to be weaseled around in price war. They told me all I need to do is sign below piece of paper and they will order the car. The problem I’m having is that the below piece of paper does not seem to BIND anything? It isn’t even a contract or is it? NOWHERE on that paper does it state that I am guaranteed to buy the car at noted price without fear of price war when car actually arrives at dealership!!
  2. I am financing car. Dealership said there are NO pre-payment penalties and that pre-payment penalties became illegal? Is this really true? I plan to put ZERO down and will select 72 or 84 month finance but after the first year or so I will pay it off early… so hopefully there really are NO pre-payment penalties.
  3. I feel insane for not negotiating MSRP lower than what is listed! But I guess in these crazy times I should be happy to just pay MSRP with no mark-ups?
Sorry for all my questions… kind of scary buying a car… I don’t trust dealerships ?

Your interest rates seem a bit off , ( 4.99 % ) I think ford has or had a program recently, check it out .

I would hope the dealer hadn't run OP's credit yet so the number there is just an example of payment amounts. That should happen only after the vehicle is delivered since the application only lasts about a month typically.

Current Ford Credit promo rates for those with qualifying credit ratings are:

36 months 0.9%
48 months 1.9%
60 months 2.9%
72 months 4.9%
75 months 5.9%
84 months 6.9%

Well, in todays world, cars are tough... my advice... look at this link, build it... flared fenders maybe skip if it wont let you add it with the moon roof.

https://www.ford.com/custom-order/

This site says $1000 off on custom order, you should be able to get that.

Also, if you are going to pay it off in a year, pick the 3 yr loan, it has the lowest interest... big payment though

Every dealership is different, but hopefully to put your mind at some ease, I signed absolutely nothing when ordering the vehicle, you basically go through the dealers version of the Ford site to order it, you get all the email updates etc. I got pre approved through my credit union at a much lower rate than what ford is currently offering but I waited until I got "built" email to do that so it didn't expire. I told them where I was at and term and said if they could beat it cool if not I was good, made that whole process super simple. Got to use to use the $1000 custom order credit. When the car arrived was In and out in under 2 hours and about 45 mins was waiting on one of the two finance guys to be free so our sales guy just let us putz the car around the lot to show it off.
