You do realize that my local Hyundai has 160 new vehicles in stock, Kia has 83 in stock, Toyota has 20.
My local Ford has 6 in stock and Jeep has 5. Looks like mostly a FMC and Jeep problem.
Here in Traverse City our Kia Dealer has exactly 5 cars, all Serentos. The Hyundai dealer has less than ten, only three models. There is one Rav4 at the Toyota dealer, a few pick-ups. There are no VWs of any sort. The Subaru lot looks pretty full, as does the Jeep and GM dealer. The Honda dealer has 1 HRV, and cannot order anything. They have about ten CRVs, all of them blue or dark grey.

Try ordering anything from anyone. Most dealers won't even take orders.

Any manufacturer that can delivery vehicles will be sold out due to panic buying. Vehicles are the new toilet paper. Hurry up and buy what ever you can find fast.

Friend of mine has been a Honda salesmen for the last 10 years. I spoke to him on the phone last week. He says inventories are low very difficult to get vehicles to sell. He says most buyers have to settle for colors / options that they don't like / want because not much to choose from.

I think for folks that need a vehicle the wait and uncertainty is inflicting serious pain and they will express it. No one saw this chip shortage vehicle shortage crisis coming. its a real big problem now for those that need a vehicle. It is very dire situation, new/used vehicle shortage really bad, and not gonna get better any time soon...
I absolutely agree, I thought I had my order timed with my lease termination. Thankfully another option came through as my order still hasn't arrived, and my lease has been returned. I found another sport, had most of what I wanted. I made some concessions as it's a 'dire' situation getting your hands on a badlands. Nope, I didn't see chip issues, Ford, Chevy, Chrysler none of them. NO WAY does Ford want customers waiting, angry, or frustrated. That's a terrible business plan. But suppliers etc are making it nearly impossible to predict much of anything. In a NORMAL situation, new models face hurdles.
My point was more that being upset is understandable. Posting daily how Kia and other manufacturers somehow have cars, and it's all Ford's fault gets old. I was in panic mode. I made a choice...I am happy to have a bronco I wanted with minimal sacrifice. I feel and can in fact empathize with those wanting what they want, having limited information and promises not delivered. There reaches a point where posting on every thread about how bad Ford screwed up is just negativity...maybe Ford isn't the right choice. Maybe the wait is worth it. I can't make that call for anyone else. But I also don't see a point to Ford bashing 24/7 because an order didn't go through. I researched, I called several dealerships, I made sure all the ducks were in a row. I put a ton of effort into getting what I wanted. I didn't wait on Ford. I'm not angry with anyone...

Hyundai & Kia builds many great vehicles. I do believe they are higher on the initial quality list than either Ford or Jeep. The Telluride and Pallisade has been scarce since day 1. The company has decided to keep the price up by not building an unlimited number. I can’t argue that the chip shortage isn’t starting to hit Hyundai & Kia now but up until now it hasn’t. I’m sure you will have an explanation for this.
you missed the point...those cars sitting are either the result of being unpopular...OR the Dealer is gouging….Id say the former....Ford had a BUNCH of Escapes on Dealers lots for a while, basically because the car wasnt too popular (barring Hybrids )...that supply has now become depleted...

They are South Korea companies. Chips are made in South Korea.
Not all of them...a major supplier was located in Japan...and they had a factory burn down. Also, in reaction to covid, chip suppliers thought the Car business would be dead in the water and were funneling said chips to Phone/ TV/ appliance manufacturers....welcome to the Domino effect...

absolutely but it sounds like the japan supplier is operational and I'd guess near 100% by now. But the domino effect is real

Yes chip shortage, labor shortage, other parts shortages is every manufacturer. Some more so then others. My childhood friend been a car salesmen for decades been selling Hondas for last 10 years. He says they have very low inventory and struggling badly to find vehicles for customers. He told me most customers have to settle for missing options or colors they do not like. He says that is the best they can do in current market conditions. And discounts, nope, not getting any of those either....

Back in winter new Escapes sitting on every Ford lot with massive discounts rebates. Those were bargains. And that was only 6 months back. Things changed very quickly....

So does this mean that I'm just missing one chip?

Yep, sucks being us.

Dealer said my was waiting as well, I guess Ford doesn't understand the meaning of "Your Vehicle has been Built" and waiting shipment.

Sorry for the misleading information about the "RCM" module. :crying:

Edit: I've checked dealer stock vehicle VIN's and some show a missing module, go figure!

I got an email on 6/12 saying that mine was built and was supposed to be delivered in mid July. Then two days later, I got an email saying that the new delivery date was 10/25-10/31.

Hopefully both of ours are on the way to us soon.

Renesas makes most of the chips that go into Fords. Here is a June 1st update regarding their facility after the fire.

UPDATE 9 - Notice Regarding the Semiconductor Manufacturing Factory (Naka Factory) Fire: Production Capacity Recovery Status

June 1, 2021
TOKYO, Japan, June 1, 2021 ― Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE:6723), a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, today announced an update regarding production capacity recovery following the occurrence of a fire on March 19, 2021 at part of the processes in the N3 Building (300mm line) of Naka Factory.

The production capacity of the N3 Building which resumed operation on April 17 has recovered to 88% as of the end of May in comparison to the production capacity before the occurrence of the fire. The procurement of manufacturing equipment damaged by the fire has been completed for all necessary equipment to return to pre-fire production capacity. The last equipment, the CMP equipment, was delivered on May 27 and the start-up of the equipment is scheduled to complete by mid-June. Promptly thereafter, Renesas aims for the production capacity to return to 100% of the pre-fire levels.

In addition, alternative production is contributing to Renesas’ manufacturing as planned.
Renesas will continue to strive for the safety of the community and with the support of the fire department and the police as well as the relevant authorities, we will work to prevent a reoccurrence.

Probably the best place for something like that to happen. Look at the tsunami damages and the small clean up and recovery time. They get ? done over there and take pride in it.

This however paints a realistic picture. TSMC and Samsung make 99% of chips. PS5 can't be made fast enough. The newest cell phones and gadgets are ramping up for Christmas season...the two main companies are focused on newer faster chip supply while ALL (not just Ford) rely on the cheaper and older style chips as cutting edge new tech isn't necessary. All in all they expect this problem to get much worse. It could even cause an appliance shortage.
Ford will need to rethink the start stop feature and free up a chip at minimum.
