As I've mentioned other times, our local dealer wants $582 to replace the vent tube per the TSB, plus they can't get one from Ford or so they told me. I'm thinking it can't be that hard to replace? I haven't had a look but some sources say it's a $20 part, so how many hours does this take?
We got a call from Ford regarding this from a contact from the Ford social media team, during our conversation she told us the the dealer can put in an emergency order but they didn't seem bothered to do so. Neither did they offer a fluid change as a remedial effort until the part was available.....even though once done the RDU has quieted right down.
Also, it's time to contact the NHTSA about a recall, as a failure could certainly leave the vehicle immobile in an unsafe situation- https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index so make your best case for a recall and let's get Ford to address this in a serious manner.

$582 to replace the vent tube??? Efff that!
I did the fluid change for about $120 and that took care of my RDU problems. I'll probably start doing a fluid change about every 30k or 40k miles to ensure this does not repeat.

I've not seen the hose itself but could you simply slip a larger peice of pvc / fluid or air type tubing over the end of the existing one to extend and reroute without removing the old?

“According to mechanic the drain tube for the rear differential gets clogged from road debris and dirt gets into rear differential.

The repair is rerouting drain tube (new part) and changing fluid.”

I must be lucky enough to have a good dealer. About a month ago I had the vent hose replaced along with draining RDU, replacing fluids and adding friction modifier. They said Ford would cover it under the drivetrain warranty.

“According to mechanic the drain tube for the rear differential gets clogged from road debris and dirt gets into rear differential". So what happens if dirt gets into the rear diff? Does it need a flush? Does the dirt cause damage?

My guess is if some dirt does get in a drain and refill would be the minimum needed. Various components of the RDU to the RDU itself have been reported by owners as repairs needed to their vehicles.

Unknown how many owners have been impacted but my guess is it’s a relatively small percentage of the total vehicles produced but I have no way to know

You can read through a number of owner reports by following the links here:
