It is a very useful video showing many different disassembly operations for the cup holders, HVAC Controls, 8” Display, APIM, etc.

It’s really makes for a fun afternoon
Brutal!
I hope my sound system never has an issue. Probably some creaks and rattles after that upgrade.

If you have CarPlay why not just use the map apps available via Apple or Android? Way too much work IMO.
I have Nav. I was on youtube doing a search on how to have Nav in night mode all the time and came across that video.

Funny I was just looking at adding CarPlay to my 2013 ES. There is a similar video for adding that. “Just a few tools….10mm socket, Philips, slotted, large and small panel tools”. Then proceed to dismantle the complete dash of a 2013 Lexus. Simple plug and play DYI.

Now, in all fairness, I used to install various media players into cars during the 70’s and 80’s so ripping into the dash of cars isn’t completely foreign to me. And I must admit, using panel tools is way easier than classic car gymnastics to take cars apart. Once they went to DIN standards, it became pretty simple to replace the head units.

I ended up buying a 9.25 CarPlay unit that fits in the area where the stock display is. My only reason is to access Waze without having to look at my phone.

$800 + labor (if you have someone install) + tax. Not to mention the expense if something breaks or becomes disconnected.

Not even sure a stand alone GPS for <$100 is even worth it when you can get a touch screen with AA/CP for the same price. I've been looking at them for my '10 Mustang.

I agree. I prefer Waze much more over the Garmin maps. The screen I purchased for the 2013 Lexus is amazing as far as touch sensitivity and screen resolution. It pairs instantly with my phone. The only downsides so far are it can be a bit tricky to set up to avoid glare and it blocks the standard display that includes the back up camera. Since I grew up prior to back up cameras, that isn’t a huge deal but I have finally gotten used to using it.

My wife & I just use the Google maps app from her cell phone hooked via a cable to the usb port. Way simpler & no need to add more stuff. The vehicle already has way too much electronics stuff in it IMHO.

I have an older Apple SE and that’s what I used for years but it’s in a cup style phone holder that sits rather low. I agree, I’d rather use one device or have it integrated but I don’t like the idea of having to look down at it. I really use it mostly instead of the radar detector as nowadays, that gets set off by many of the new cars. But, that’s me. That’s what’s really nice about the Sport and the Full size with integrated CarPlay but the 2013 Lexus is too old and that’s the vehicle we do our longer traveling in.

In the Sport and Full-size, the maps automatically come up. I have the CarLinkit 5 in the Sport to avoid having to plug it in on short trips.

Can I ask what model AA/CP screen you purchased? It's hard to tell which ones on Amazon are better and where to get firmware updates for them.

I was looking at this one, but it's a bit pricer than some of the others.

Also, I was considering one of those CD slot mounts with the 17mm ball so that is does not obstruct view or block vents on my '10 Stang.
