Hi, I just got a 2025 Bronco Sport Outer Banks. I am enjoying the car. It is a substantial downsize for me from an F150, but that is how life should be. Anyway, the dealer offered me an 8-year extended warranty for about $2200. Since I don't usually see the value in such things, I passed. Now, in reading this forum it sounds like the Tranny is just a likely to go in about 6 years, than not. It is the feeling I'm getting.

Now I wonder if anyone got a good extended warranty? Do you swear by it? Is there an "after-market" warranty that is better than the dealer version?

I have to say reading some of the posts here, I might like the comfort of such a deal. BTW, the dealer said I had 30 days to add that if I wanted his.

Thanks for your input.

ps. I'm in California. I just went on that site mentioned here and they don't do California warranties.

The two places I would've suggested looking (Granger Ford and CarEdge) both don't offer California warrantees. Don't know why, but I would bet CA regulators are "protecting" you from competitive pricing. Your best bet is to leave the state altogether. ?

Based on having only 30 days to buy the dealers warranty i am assuming it is not a Ford ESP plan but a 3rd party plan. Ford ESP can be bought anytime but after the 3 year warranty expires may require an inspection. Last March i payed $2900 for a Ford premium ESP with a 10 years, 100000 mile warranty from Zeigler Ford online with a $50 deductible. I realize that Online dealers may not sell warranties to California residents but i would try other California dealers or call Ford Protect directly

Good ideas. I did look at online options and they seem to block CA - even the Ford official site. They said to use the dealer. I am waiting on an email from my dealer for that.

Drivetrain warranty that comes with the vehicle is 5 years or 60,000 miles. I could have extended it for 3 more years for about $3,000. No thanks. I’d rather save the $3,000 and pay for repairs after 60,000 miles IF they happen. Warranties are a profit item for a reason. Just my humble take on it. Nothing against those that prefer to buy extended warranties.

Just for grins, check Granger’s site. I know they can’t sell direct to CA, but there are clues on this and the G6 Forum on how to get around that. If nothing else, you’ll know the price you should pay based on 25.00 over cost.

Consider getting your data regarding reliability somewhere other than an online forum. Impressions are easily skewed by the fact the majority of people with no problems do not post. Since all you see are posts from people having issues you begin to think the cars are problem prone. As far as I know there are no widespread issues with the transmissions in these cars. Follow your instincts on the extended warranty. Put the money into a decent interest bearing account instead. That way if you need it it's there. If not, you not only saved the cost of the warranty but you also made money on the interest.

It’s basically insurance. Like others have stated, insurance companies are not in business to not make money. But just like health insurance, car insurance, and house insurance, if something really bad happens and you don’t have the funds to cover it, you are glad you had it. There are several Ford dealers that offer it at a price just above dealer cost. Make sure you get the Ford Protect (ESP) plan if you get one and not a third party plan. I’m partial to Granger but then I’ve bought two vehicles from them both at great discount so even with the plans, I was under MSRP and honestly, I don’t trust these cars as much as I did the old non-automated ones. Probably because I’m no longer smart enough to fix them like I was with the older ones. Based on the prices I see now on Granger’s site, these have also gone up substantially like all other insurance has over the past couple of years.

Except that you already have bumper to bumper coverage for 3 years and drive train coverage for 5 years/60,000 miles, so extending the bumper to bumper for 3 years for about $3000 (no deductible) is more like $83/month. I'll save that money, invest it and pay IF repairs are needed. Again, just my humble opinion.

This is why it is better to go with the Ford ESP plan with Granger. You can extend bumper to bumper for 3 years/39k miles for around 31.00 a month. The problem is most people won’t invest the 1100 or 31 a month and then are up a creek when/if something happens. Homeowners insurance is even worse. If you look at the data, the risk vs reward is even greater.

Negotiate with a Ford dealer on an Ford ESP plan price, no 3rd party.

Extended warranties are a crap shoot but I have one I bought from Granger before the CA. bu!!shit started. Paid $1605 with added options, 7 year 75K miles, $50 ded. If you have issues other than powertrain after the 3 year 36K mile warranty, it doesn't take long to eat up that cost.

Up to you whether it's worth it. If you decide to sell the vehicle before the ESP expires, it's prorated for a refund depending on whether you tapped into it and what was paid out.

I think a lot depends on how many miles you put on per year as well. I don’t put the miles on like I used to so adding an extra five years, doesnt cost much.
