Ford Battery Recall - #25S02

When the auto zone technician opened the hood the battery was smoking and about to catch fire .

The rotten egg smell was your battery overcharging. This can happen if your alternator, voltage regulator, or battery management system allows system voltage to exceed normal range (generally between 14 - 15 volts DC). It can also happen if your battery experiences an internal short. 12V batteries are made up of six cells, with each one supplying two of the 12 volts. If the battery shorts internally then you lose one or more cells. Each cell lost reduces the battery's voltage by two. If you apply a 12V charge to a 10 (or less) volt battery it will overheat, causing the internal fluid to boil. The gas generated by boiling battery acid smells like rotten eggs. I suspect this is what happened to your battery.

I cannot explain why the rear wheels locked up. That would seem to be unrelated to the battery issue.

Looks like my 22 BB is included in this recall. Luckily I have not had any issues with mine at all including battery related stuff. Weather has been consistently below 10 degrees (dropping into negatives at night) by me and my baby Bronco has started up nicely every single time.
Praying that when I take it in to get this recall done it doesn’t start giving me trouble!?

I got the recall also. Our battery failed at 37,000 miles (but, less than 3 years) so it wasn't under warranty (even though the battery came with a 3 year warranty).

I wonder if they would reimburse us?

The recall letter says they will reimburse owners for prior failures. Ford could claim the battery was out of warranty, but it also was manufactured with an underlying defect to begin with.

All you have to lose is a little bit of time contacting your dealer/Ford to ask. I would expect you would get at least a partial refund for whatever battery you purchased to replace (whether or not it came from Ford).

it was replaced at Ford. I emailed my service manager; but, haven't heard back as of yet.

I had my 2022 Outer Banks in for service two weeks ago for the previous recall. I made sure they checked the battery - It failed so they replaced it with a AGM battery. Timing is everything - I should be good.

Spoke to my Ford Service Advisor this morning and was advised the formal recall notices are scheduled to be sent to customers on February 3.

2024 BL, less than 500 miles on it. No recall notice as of yet.

The battery is a 760 CCA H6 AGM.

2021 badlands with 20k miles. Zero battery issues. Went in for regular service and they inspected battery as precursor to recall. Battery checked out fine. Not all 12v may be bad.
