Are you part of the 64% that have not yet had Recall 24S24 completed?

As of JUL 22, 2024 (2Q 2024), a total of 163,727 vehicles have had Recall 24S24 completed out of a Recall Population of 456,565.

Meaning 64% could experience the Recall 24S24 stated risk:
“If the BCM and PCM calibrations are unable to detect a sudden battery degradation during a drive, the vehicle may be unable to restart or may experience a stall while coming to a stop at low speed.“

Recall Quarterly Report #1, 2024-2:
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCLQRT-24V267-0640.PDF

Recall 24S24 states it provides “improved detection of 12V battery SOC during drive cycles” but does not state the problems listed in 24S24 are fixed.

Some owners have stated after having 24S24 completed, their vehicle died and no notification that the battery was degraded was provided.

The cause for those owners is unknown but a likely reason is their battery had degraded beyond what Recall 24S24 could hanfke.

“The update BCM calibrations will provide improved detection of 12V battery SOC during drive cycles, inhbit auto stop/start in the event of a low SOC, and provide notification to the driver if the battery is degraded. The updated PCM calibrations will increase the alternator output threshold to maintain vehicle operation if a low 12V battery SOC is detected during a drive cycle.”

My recommendation is owners should be diligent in monitoring battery voltage in “real-time”.

An easy low cost way to monitor the battery voltage is with a voltmeter plugged into the 12V Port. More on that topic is posted at:
https://www.broncosportforum.com/forum/threads/battery-just-died-no-warnings-or-any-signs.11799/post-198778

What to look for is discussed in this post:

I got one because of this.

I'm on the fence with getting the recall. I've been using a Scan Gauge on my vehicles since 2008, transferring it to five new vehicles till now with the Sport being number six. This little gem allows monitoring four of fourteen different parameters on the screen. If one is so inclined, it will do so much more with fuel economy, trip cost, etc. I currently monitor RPM, TEMP, L/110km and voltage. It will also do check engine light codes and reset the light. Well worth a quick trip to Google to check it out.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this. I picked the most recent discussion involving recall 24S24.

Got the recall last week. It's doing the same thing as before: randomly won't start (sometimes after auto shut off, but other times after normal operation and being garaged for hours/days), gear dial won't work, lots of blinking lights. After a random number of times pushing the start button (sometimes it takes A LOT), it will finally start and operate mostly as normal (although I am now getting the "Transmission not in park" message occasionally at low speed). If the battery was degraded, would continuing to push the start button eventually "help"? Seems like it wouldn't, but I confess I know nothing about vehicles in general so forgive my ignorance.

You may be pushing your luck if you need to replace the battery. Have the Ford dealership perform a load test on the battery.

I had the recall done on my Ford Bronco Sport Big Bend 2021. I went on vacation to the mountains and my car would not start at first a few times and then it would. I got a new battery put in. I now have extra "beeps" when I start the car. The chimes go fast 5 times after the normal ititial chimes. I have no warning lights or messages. I have no idea why it now does this. It actually chimed 2x while driving but so far it is mostly when I start the car. I've read everything about seatbelts, doors open etc and that is not it. I can't find any information on this. Any help is appreciated!

It could be this:

If the airbag warning indicator is inoperative and a SRS fault exists, a chime sounds in a pattern of 5 sets of 5 beeps or a message displays in the message center. If this occurs, diagnose and repair the airbag warning indicator and any SRS faults before proceeding with other repairs.

If it’s not the above airbag warning indicator is inoperative and a SRS fault exists…

Those beeps could be coming from the piezo device (“piezo speaker” on the dash).

That can happen under a battery low condition and could also have the System Off to Save Battery* message which is a notification that the vehicle detected issues with the battery or charging system.

*Seat belt chime, door open chime, back up sensor beeps, rear cross traffic alert, etc: these sounds normally play through the audio system speakers. Under certain conditions including the System Off to Save Battery condition, these sounds may play through the instrument cluster speaker (piezo speaker on the dash) instead of the audio system speakers.

You can try this since whoever changed your battery might not have performed this procedure:

Battery Sensor Reset (Battery Management System (BMS) Reset):
When you install a new battery, reset the battery sensor by doing the following:
1. Switch ignition on, and leave the engine off.
Note: Complete Steps 2 & 3 within 10 seconds.
2. Flash the high beam headlamps five times, ending with the high beams off.
3. Press and release the brake pedal 3 times.
The battery warning lamp flashes 3 times to confirm that the reset is successful.

The sound will go away on its own after a period of time (after the battery has charged up sufficiently).

My wife was having the same sort of random goofy things pop up for no reason, plus her fuel economy went down, which was really strange.

A small drop in fuel economy is reasonable due to the transmission relearn cycle that is part of Recall 24S24 but not everyone experiences that.

Mpg should return to her typical pattern after a few full tanks of gas.

I just had the recall 24S24 done a couple of weeks ago. I only have put 200 miles on my BS so far. I reset the mpg computer after the update and while nothing scientific I hav noticed that the mpg has gone up some. On the other hand took it out for a drive today after sitting for a few days and I thought it was odd that the auto start/stop engaged immediately with the first time I stopped at a light. Before the update it would take a few stops before the auto start/stop would engage as the battery was charging. When I switched to the engine operating message it said Engine operating normally. I plugged in the volt meter Dude recommended into the 12 volt receptacle and it seemed to register normally. Over 12v when plugged in initially and over 14v while driving. Maybe because outside temperatures were only in the low 80's compared to recent temps in the upper 90's or the software parameters have changed allowing the auto start/stop to engage more quickly when initially driving after not using the BS for a few days. I guess something to keep an eye on.
