I lost 3-4, maybe 5 mpg after they reprogrammed the PCM....lucky if I get 23 mpg now, was getting 27-28 for everyday driving in Normal mode.
Recall 24S24 “appears” to negatively impact gas mileage on the order of 3-5mpg based on what other owners also reported but not everyone seems to be impacted because some report no change in gas mileage after 24S24.

And this can go on now in some cases has been over a month since they had the recall done and no increase in mpg back to what it was.

I don’t know if recall 24S24 is the cause of their drop in mpg, it is just suspicious and why the mpg has not recovered is also suspicious.

Your post needs more context concerning your MPG. There are so many varibles that need to be addressed. Is your commute through the city or is it highway or a combination. When you say you drive easy that can be somewhat subjective. Do you use Cruise Control as much as possible, do you drive the speed limit, do you use AutoStop, is your commute mostly flat or moutainous? I could go on and on. Your mileage is respectable, neither great or bad so it really needs to be broken down with more details to really get why you feel 28.5 is bad.
I have a 21 BS OB, 1.5, my long term mileage is 34 MPG (48K). I can list everything I have done as far as mods go to get that but the first thing I would suggest is adjust your fuel bias. Adjusting that might make a difference of 5-10%, hopefully on the upside. Look up "Engineering Test Mode" on this site. There is a good tutorial on how to adjust your fuel bias. Before you do that hand calculate at least three full tanks of mpg, more is better. The more miles you calculate the more accurate you actual MPG will be. If your 28.5 is already with hand calculations than adjusting you fuel bias can be done this weekend.
This is a stock ‘23 BS with the 1.5l engine. I think you may have misunderstood… I’ve dropped from 28.5 computer calculated / 27 hand calculated (which I find very acceptable mileage) to 25.5 computer calculated to 24 hand calculated, with no changes in route, driving habits, fuel used (fill up at the same station every time). No difference in traffic patterns, rural drive, no stop and go…

I understand the discrepancy between hand calculated mpg and that provided by the computer. It’s been 3mpg difference, regardless of which method is used for the calculation.

I would have thought that summer blend fuel would have been introduced well before mid-July When all the drop took place but perhaps I’m wrong. I’ll do a little research. I just haven’t noticed similar occurrences with prior vehicles.
Thanks for you comments and suggestions. Much appreciated. I’ll look into the fuel bias adjustment as well

Try changing the engine air filter. It really made a difference in the average mpg on my Bronco
Thanks for the suggestion. I’m at a shade ove 9k miles. I think it was last changed at 4.5k. I’ll check my records. Certainly can’t hurt

I lost 2mpg after the recall and it's been quite a while. So I guess I'm stuck with this. I was averaging 30 with my 21 BB and. Now it's 28. Every time.

I had the recall done a couple of months ago , Did not notice any mileage difference in my Badlands. To test it this past week I took a short 150 mile drive out and back mostly interstate , reset trip 1, with a/c on , got 29.5 mpg. So I am good. I have heard the computer needs to rest itself to your driving style. I wait a bit and test it again.

i average 27.8 around town on my 2023 1.5 Dragon engine. Pretty satisfied with that. Recall not done yet. So I hope that recall does not change anything. Will see as I’m getting close to 9 k miles for oil change and have both recalls done.

Yes - when did you have Recall 24S24 completed relative to gas mileage changes?
Sorry... doesn't look like i answered this one.

Recall was completed on 6/20 all seemed fine. Had a road trip over the course of a few days starting on 6/30 (all highway) where i averaged 35mpg which i thought was amazing and mentioned in in another mpg thread somewhere.

The fill up after that, and driving my "regular" route is where I noticed the significant drop from my "normal" mileage to this lower number. I filled up the other day and I'm currently at 27.5 mpg (computer average) for this tank. However, i see that average taking pretty odd swings... i could be at 25 and then by the end of a ride, it will claw it's way back to 27 or 27.5 under some pretty easy rural driving conditions. Strange. OH, the variable on this tank of fuel.... my local station, where i fill up nearly every time, was out of 87 octane and mid-grade so i had to fill up with premium.

Will be interesting to hear back from you in another couple months to see if your mileage returns to your typical MPG prior to 6/20. Let us know around end of August and end of September.
