How does giving managers a bonus improve quality?
These days their is so much pressure to keep the line moving, schedule is everything and things can get missed in design, engineering and on the floor.
Why not offer incentives to everyone for quality improvement, quality is a common goal and is a team effort not just managements.
If you don't like him, I get it. To each his own. But my opinion would be to wait to see the results of such change management.

If it is everyone’s responsibility, it is no one’s responsibility.

If the boss doesn’t care about it there is little personal benefit to anyone below them caring about it.
Yep. In any position I've been in, if my boss is checked out, there was ZERO incentive for me to be checked in....and usually led to my prompt exit.

Jim Farley has been in charge of Ford for the last 3 years of Fords most recent worst qualiity years.
On this board their are people that say they will never buy a Ford again, this isnt the only place where that sentiment is felt
Farley knows he F'd up and is working to change things. We'll see what happens.

Quality doesn't tank overnight. This is like blaming an incoming president for a malfunctioning government created by the previous. Could he have started cleaning house sooner? Perhaps, but it's likely that dealing with the supply shortages due to the global pandemic were a higher priority.

Mullaly turned quality around in 18 months. Much of Ford's current quality issues are the result of labor issues, not supplier issues.

Yeah my 2020 Fusion was a solid car. That came out when Mullaly was still in charge back in 2013. Then I got a 22 Escape that dates back to 2020 that my parents bought from me and then a 22 Bronco Sport that dates to 2021. Both were in the shop for quality issues more than my Fusion ever was. So I’d say yeah, quality tanked that fast way before Covid and supply issues were even a thing because 2020 Escapes were being built in 2019. I mean even the current gen Explorer came out in 2019 and started being built in 2018 had quality issues. I would also add though that cost cutting by using cheap parts played a big part in their current quality woes.

Yeah I know, tbh as I said I think Toyota is getting it right by slowly transitioning their customer base to EVs by going in between with hybrids.
That transition has been nearly 30 years in the making (the first Prius was in.... 1997?) but i totally agree with you on Toyota being smart in their strategy. I would have no hesitation in purchasing a hybrid. A full-on EV? No thank you. Between the stunning lack of charging infrastructure and the less than amazing real world range, it's a bit disheartening.

I liken this massive EV push to the equivalent of the US Govt pushing everyone to get rid of their horse and buggies in 1900 because it was inhumane to have these poor beasts hauling us around, and don't worry the first Model T was going to be available just around the corner... in 1908.

Might be a lot of coal in the stockings of management next Christmas.

Like Mark said, it's going to take some time to turn this around.

The end of 2024 will tell if the bear craps in the buckwheat or not.
