Noticed this BS in front of me having issues with a taillight. Wanted to try to get side by side with them to let them know (in case, sometimes, people are oblivious) and also find out how old it was. Haven’t really heard anyone in here chirp about the taillights. But a good LED twilight should not be going out so soon. Even if it’s a 2021. That’s for sure.

Speaking of lights out.... is headlight "bulb" replacement (or tail light replacement) a nightmare?
Can it be done without the re-discovery of fire and reinvention of the wheel ???

The reason i ask..... I had a 2011 VW GTi and changing a headlight required the entire front grille of the car to be removed. I wanted to fly to Germany and leave a flaming bag of dog turds on the front steps of the guy who designed that car.

If it's the same deal on the BS, the only consolation is that I will only need to fly (or drive, with a headlight out) to Detroit.

Isn't that bulb an incandescent one?

Still odd for it to go out so soon. Maybe a bad batch?

On my Accord, I had to replace my bulbs twice within a 2-3 year period about 10 years ago. After that, I haven't had to replace them again.

Taillight are easy to replace.
Headlamps are a sealed unit, no bulb to replace. The entire unit has to be replaced (also easy but is pricey). Many people bought Ford’s ESP extended warranty package with the Interior/Exterior Lighting rider for that reason.

Only 3 non-LEDs on this thing. Why didn't they just do them all LED?

I need to look into that ESP! I know there are plenty out there that are issue-free but the amount that pops up on here makes me think there's a decent chance I may need that warranty after 3 years. I had one on my Accord and really got my money's worth.

It really varies by bulb, incandescent and led, my last car had incandescent bulbs all around, it was a 2005 Toyota, 175k miles, with the original bulbs in it, except 2 brake light bulbs which finally went out after 19 years, and were a breeze to replace, I still have the car, with all the other original bulbs

Rear break light bulb is a 3157.
If either of the brake light bulbs burn out it typically causes the turn signal on that side to fast blink (hyperflash) as well.

Becareful when removing the rear light assembly, the black trim piece has tabs that can easily be broken.

On the BS the brake light and turn signals are separate bulbs.

The circuitry for the tailight assembly is somehow tied together, if the brake light bulb blows then the turn signal will hyperflash. When people have the turn signal hyperflash issue and look at the taillights they look like they are working correctly and wonder what is causing the fast blinking, it is 99% of the time caused by the brake light bulb being bad.

That burned out bulb isn't a LED. It is a brake light and is an incandescent. I replaced these with LED's in my OBX.
Mike, I have been considering replacing the turn and brake bulbs with LED's.

There's a lot to choose from. I want a quality bulb that doesn't cause any hyper flashing issues and are plug and play.

What brand did you go with and are you happy with them?
