I've gotten a kick out of watching Jehovah's Witnesses huff and puff just getting to our front porch.
Best way I've found to get rid of religion hustlers at my front door:

THEM: Have you heard the word of [whatever deity they support]?

ME: No.

THEM: Can we come in and visit with you to talk about [deity]?

ME: Sure. I'm just getting ready to take a bath. You can join me in the bathroom.

I'm guessing Ford did away with the keypad since the fob automatically unlocks the door once you touch a doorhandle? (i'm assuming all BS get the fob and this auto unlock feature). One more way to cut a few bucks from production costs and send it to the UAW. Who knows, maybe they'll do away with locks altogether in the 2025 production cycle

As for stealing a BS.... while i love my BS in Heritage trim, if i were a car thief, i'd probably go for something a bit more "big-ticket" than a BS... Especially if i knew there was the distinct possibility of me being a desperado rolling in a 3-banger!!

Just saying....Pickups, tuner-cars and high end sports cars & SUV's is where the glory is for most of these guys. We just had some local ne'er-do-wells waltz into a garage a couple towns over and drive off with an Aston Martin - now THAT is car theft!! (they were arrested a few days later and a chop-shop one of the guys ran was shut down. So, as the saying goes, "crime never pays")

Agreed. Never leave it unlocked, and no one will rifle through it.

Please understand, I can sympathize if the situation is that your neighborhood is constantly being threatened by people trying car handles.

Here are the basic precautions that shoudl allow you to sleep better ...
a) leaving your doors always locked
b) never leaving valuables in your car
c) attaching a club to your steering wheel so the car will never be stolen
d) making sure you have great insurance in case any damage does happen

In your instance, I would also recommend taking the extra step of partnering with every neighbor on the block, making sure everyone is aware of the situation (go knocking door to door), and maybe even attempt to form a neighborhood watch. You can register this with your local municipality and get signs put up. In time, the thieves will see your block as too much trouble and move on to another.

I truly do hope that helps you. I think we are in similar "urban" situations.
Agree. I live in an affluent low-crime neighborhood, but no neighborhood is crime free. I formed a neighborhood watch years ago and I'm the coordinator. Also a graduate of Norman Police Citizens Academy and regularly volunteer at our local PD. Our neighbohood covenants don't allow vehicles to be parked in the street at night and in my section they must be garaged. This cuts down on the night time carhoppers. They hit all the neighborhoods around us, but seldom in ours. We have six block captains and always stress that all of us are a part of our neighorhood watch. Just neiighors neigbhors taking care of neighbors. Most of the homes have security cameras

The website NextDoor is also a good way for neighbors to communicate with one another. It's sort of like facebook for neighborhoods.

Intelligent access is not available standard on all trims.

I did actually think about this when buying my house. We found a new construction in our price range which was a bit of a miracle in this area, but it doesn't have a garage (originally a requirement during my search). What it does have is a long steep driveway that places our cars and the house well above street level. I've gotten a kick out of watching Jehovah's Witnesses huff and puff just getting to our front porch. I think our small hill will deter most thieves just because it makes our cars less convenient than others. If not, that's what our cameras and insurance are for. Would be a bummer, but I try not to stress all the time about things I can't control.

Please excuse the unfinished landscaping. Tackling one piece of the "contractor special" yard at a time. ?
In front of the cars , perfect place for your new garage!

Not our property unfortunately. It ends at the top of our driveway. There's a 2 story house that's being finished up next door now. Our place is one big slope so a garage would be pretty tough.

Intelligent access is what lets you lock and unlock the car by touching the handle?
I can do that with my 21 Big Bend. Also have the illuminated keypad on the door.

We had multiple car "break-ins" and a car stolen (house across the street). Turns out that every car that was broken into was actually unlocked, and the stolen car was left unlocked with the keys in it.

True... If someone really wants to get into your vehicle, or take your vehicle, they'll do it. But for crying out loud, you don't have to make it easy for them.

Perhaps you have a garage door remote in the car. Now they have easy access to your garage. Is it an attached garage? Do you lock the door going into the house?

I did volunteer work with the Apex NC police department for nine years. Most of the veteran cops will tell you that they rarely, if ever, saw broken windows. There are so many cars with doors carelessly left open that thieves will quickly move through an area and not bother to spend the time or make the noise made by breaking windows.

Yes, I should've been more accurate. Intelligent access is not standard on all trims. I corrected my post--thanks!

Search for "smash and grab vehicle theft" on YouTube. There are roving gangs of smash & grab thieves here in the STL area, and they operate both day and night. I've also read about them in other major metro areas. During the day they drive around shopping areas and parking lots of office buildings that don't have security. The smarter ones will have a couple of cars. The lead car is the scout. They'll drop one person off at the end of a row of cars who goes down the line to look in the windows and ID target cars. These are cars with anything that looks like it's worth taking sitting out in the open. This serves two purposes. First, it can help smoke out any security or police who might be nearby because they will go to investigate. Second, targets are marked for the next team in a second (or third) car, which is generally a driver and two or three others. This team drops off thieves who go directly to the marked cars, break out the windows, and grab whatever the scout saw. They don't rifle through cars because that takes too much time. The thieves take the booty to the waiting car, and the entire team is gone in less than a minute.

My comment about leaving the windows open was made with tongue firmly in cheek. Of course you should lock your car if you want to prevent car theft. If you want to prevent your windows getting smashed, however, take your valuables out of the car with you, or at least make sure they're out of site.

Lay a big rubber snake in your seat. That should be a great deterrent.
One time when I was at the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa one of the guides decided to put a big rubber snake on his roof to keep the baboons off his car. I kind of worked, baboons didn’t jump on the roof. But what they did do was grab big sticks and beat the snake they did way more damage then just walking on it. LOL
