Ok thanks I was changing between normal and eco. I did learn eco is not for HWY driving.Don't know about the noise but, no, shouldn't hurt to change modes on the fly. Just make sure you're not going into a mode that shouldn't be used under your current conditions (mud/ruts on paved road, etc). Change between normal, eco, sport on the fly all the time
I use eco even on the hwy much of the time -- just have to remember it'll take a while to pass unless you really "kick it" which nullifies the "eco" partOk thanks I was changing between normal and eco. I did learn eco is not for HWY driving.
I don’t believe ECO is beneficial on the highway. It works by decreasing throttle response and upshifting sooner to keep RPM as low as possible. When cruising on the highway you’re already in the highest gear, and downshifting to accelerate faster to pass can save fuel in some situations because you are demanding higher power for less time.I use eco even on the hwy much of the time -- just have to remember it'll take a while to pass unless you really "kick it" which nullifies the "eco" part
You definitely can use Eco for hwy driving.Ok thanks I was changing between normal and eco. I did learn eco is not for HWY driving.
With all those complicated mathematical equations, when do you find time to drive??I don’t believe ECO is beneficial on the highway. My use pattern is about 60/40 highway/city, and I saw no improvement in fuel economy using ECO. All my data is available at this link.
I've started to wonder if doing a slower acceleration in town to 35 mph is more economical than a moderate acceleration.I don’t believe ECO is beneficial on the highway. You can, but does it do what it's supposed to? My testing says it's ineffective for highway driving. I'd love for someone else to do the same testing. I tested over three tanks to average out all the factors that might affect fuel economy, and my results suggest ECO doesn't improve fuel economy for mostly highway driving. You definitely can use Eco for hwy driving.
I think you and I discussed this and I was pretty adamant about my opinion, but you are right about this. Now I think it can help in stop and go city driving but it is just engine mapping. Having a lighter right foot will do the same thing.I don’t believe ECO is beneficial on the highway. It works by decreasing throttle response and upshifting sooner to keep RPM as low as possible. A related question -- I was driving the BS BL in manual mode the other day and it was working as expected, except it would not go higher than 7th gear -- even downhill at 55-60 mph with no load. I never saw 8th gear.I don’t believe ECO is beneficial on the highway. It works by decreasing throttle response and upshifting sooner to keep RPM as low as possible. I typically get 2-3 more mpg on trips over 3-4 hrs where I'm driving continuously without stopping. I've tested this many times driving from my city to visit my daughter who lives over 3 hrs away where I'm driving 100% on a high speed tollway ... Eco is my winner each and every time. You can, but does it do what it's supposed to? My testing says it's ineffective for highway driving. I'd love for someone else to do the same testing. 63 mph. It'll go into 8th at 63. Well, mine does anyway. You can then slow to around 58 and it'll stay in 8th as long as you don't step on the pedal.A related question -- I was driving the BS BL in manual mode the other day and it was working as expected, except it would not go higher than 7th gear -- even downhill at 55-60 mph with no load. Is that normal?
