The topic of the original post is:
“Your Bronco Sport has been put into Deep Sleep mode”
Here is another perspective on that topic from a Ford employee.
Synopsis if you do not want to read this entire post: A software glitch is a common reason for the Deep Sleep Notification and related messages displayed on the 8” Display and/or in the FordPass App. This software glitch will not be solved by replacing a good 12V Battery.
“The cause of the Deep Sleep Notification and related messages displayed on the 8” Display and/or in the FordPass App can be due to a software glitch for the case in which the 12V battery and charging system is good.
In this case, the 12V Battery has been tested good by a Ford Dealership using a deep cycle diagnostic tester (or similar) and passes all possible battery and charging system tests. The glitch is referring to a case where the deep sleep and related messages are an actual glitch and there are no real reasons for these messages to be displayed.
The glitch is a timing issue in the software that is processing all the input signals for the Deep Sleep Notification and related messages. Due to the timing in signals generated by the system, and how the software processes the input signals, timing errors can occur resulting in incorrect Deep Sleep Notification and related messages being displayed.”
Apparently this timing issue is difficult to fix and has not been fixed to-date. This glitch occurs on a number of Ford vehicles and model years.
What this means is there can be a case of a perfectly functioning 12V Battery and charging system yet due to the software glitch, the Deep Sleep Notification and related messages are (incorrectly) displayed.
Making (unnecessary) repairs such as obtaining a new OE Battery or a new AGM Battery when not warranted will not solve the issue caused by a software glitch and likely will provide only temporary relief.
And while SSM 517252020 calls for updating the telematics control unit (TCU) software to the latest version, that also will not fix the software glitch at this time.
Note: I am only passing along the information from a Ford employee and I have no way to validate any of the above info is correct. Use the info or choose to ignore as you wish. And don’t shoot the messenger(s).
SSM 517252020-2023 Various Vehicles - SYNC3 - Inaccurate Deep Sleep Notifications In FordPass/LincolnWay
Some 2020-2023 Ford and Lincoln SYNC3 equipped vehicles may experience an inaccurate notification in the FordPass®/LincolnWay® app indicating Vehicle Has Entered Deep Sleep Mode.
Vehicle Has Entered Deep Sleep Mode message is expected if the vehicle has not been started for 14 consecutive days, battery voltage is at/below 9.5 volts or the body control module (BCM) 12 volt battery state of charge (SoC) drops below 50%.
If the vehicle is going into deep sleep outside these conditions, this may be due to the telematics control unit (TCU) software. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to update the TCU to the latest software. For claiming, use causal part 14G229 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
