Keeping your Bronco Sport how long?

Although I owned a '19 Ranger for a short time with no issues, I'm a Honda guy. I was looking at a '23 Passport Elite with 4K miles but I loved the styling of the BS. So I took a chance. I don't have the confidence of a Honda next month on a 1500 mile round trip. It's not a good feeling. We'll see what happens if anything.

There's been many moments where I wish I didn't know about all of these problems with these vehicles but I guess better forewarned.

I knew of some issues but see more now. I love the look, drive feel and even the size of the BS. Though always in the back of my mind are the problems some are having. I took the chance because we'll only do maybe 4k miles per year including a yearly 1500 mile trip. The trips are what scares me.

Chances are slim but a breakdown of some sort like some have had here. It's one thing around town but on a trip is different. Especially when traveling on a Sunday. It's a confidence thing compared to Honda's I've owned.

I wouldn't hesitate to hop in and drive to california in one shot on any day. (not that I'd ever go to califiornia, mind you). Life's too short to stress over things like that.

Yeah, I'm leaning in that direction. I doubt my Sport will last like my 2004 Corolla, which has zero problems after 240k miles. Just routine maintenance and replacing the starter at 190k miles lol.

In that light, the Sport's cheapo interior materials make sense. Why use ultra-durable, scratch-resistant stuff if no one seriously expects it to last?

I'm keeping an eye on the new Land Cruiser and might consider one in MY25 if it really hits 27 MPG combined. But same issue as other new vehicles: turbo four-banger + hybrid + electronics I don't "need" = won't hold up like the storied Land Cruisers of old, or even my old Corolla.

I agree with you on the quality. It's almost like the way they make cell phones now. They aren't made to last more than a year or two. Funny but I was hoping for a Land Cruiser also, and then I read first year availability in the US will be limited to 5000 units, Good luck grabbing one and even if we could I'm sure the "market adjustment" will be ridiculous.

The 5k is for the limited "First Edition" trim, not all trims. Not that I'm buying a first-year run again, but I think crazy markups for base trims will be gone by 2024 thanks to interest rates and supply chains recovering. FWIW, dealers in my region have decent inventory and aren't adding crazy markups like in 21 and most of 22.

I'm 79 so this is probably my last new vehicle. That could all change if they would put the 2.0 in the Outer Banks or come out with a Bronco Sport ST.

And that is the absolute truth.

But back to the OP question. I didn't vote in the poll as there was no option for my pick.

I bought a Ford F150 4WD in January of 1976 and it was my daily driver until June of 2000.

At that time I bought a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT and it was my daily driver until March 2021 when I bought my Bronco.

So I guess I'll look for a new vehicle around 2040 or so.

I got mine because I really like the Sport first and foremost. I had a BMW 535 that was getting a little long in the tooth as a 3rd car and last year during the used car bubble I was offered way too much for it. Sold it and set aside the money to order this through Granger. Got it super fast, so I am just enjoying it on the weekends for now (F-150 is daily). My oldest is 15 and I intend to give the Sport to him next year. It will be his to get him through college and start him out in a decent car (something I never had until about 2 years of post collegiate work). Got the 7/100K Ford ESP so any repair expenses should be covered until college is done. Then he can do what he chooses. But until then, I will enjoy my time with the Sport. Fun car.

So my answer was 5-10 years.

I will not keep ANY modern vehicle past the manufacturers warranty period. I had a 20 year old Corvette and I have a 21 year old Silverado, but I do not trust new vehicles to last as long. The amount of electronics in new vehicles is making them more and more difficult to service. I have a hard problem believing service techs are able to keep up with all the changes. Even the bigger well equipped service departments will have a limited number of true "master techs" . I know there are some very smart techs in this forum. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. As of now I have very little confidence in the future servicing of my 2023 Bronco Sport.
