TLDR: after numerous issues with my 2021 Bronco sport base, trading in.

So I’ve been a member since I started having issues with my 2021 Bronco Sport Base model. I got him from the first shipment of them that my dealership received in January 2021.

We were BFFs. I jokingly called him my favorite child which my teens understood because well, teenagers. I drive for a living so 25-30k miles a year on the buddy. Tires went at 33k, not a surprise per tire peeps as they were dealer tires.
The darn “speed” blinker happened and would switch sides even after it was “fixed”. Then at 48ish thousand miles I get the check engine light. 6 wks is how long it takes my dealer to get cars in if you need a loaner which I ALWAYS do because again, I drive for a living. It was something with the fuel injector and was covered by my extended warranty, 100$ deductible and fixed. 2 days later the check engine light is BACK on. Called them right away, still another 6 wks for the next appt. That left a pretty bad taste in my mouth for the dealership.
This time it was a coolant issue. It had completely run out of coolant (weird) and stupid me put in water because dumb. A few days later went to take 5 for oil change(1st time not going to the dealer) and told them about it and they said they had to flush the system. Did that. I actually can’t remember when that was in conjunction with the back to back visits for check engine light. Probably right before or while it was going on. I can check records though.
So it needed a new coolant pump which was covered by warranty and a new serpentine belt that was not. The belt was ruined because of the leak that was covered by warranty but that didn’t matter. Paid $500 (would have been $750 if I hadn’t had the rep I was dealing with send me a copy of the estimate).
Then the gosh darn recall with not enough parts. Our dealer was repairing one a week. I actually mentioned it to the rep I was dealing with for the coolant issue and he had no clue what I was talking about. I had seen it online. Literally the next day I got a notice in the mail about it. I was scheduled about 12 wks out.
Then in May of this year he stranded us in a left turn lane at 930 pm. He conked out and wouldn’t start. Tried ford roadside but they weren’t going to be quick enough for the cops as I was blocking the roadway and none of us knew how to get him into neutral. I should have googled it right then but my brain wasn’t working. Paid to get him out of tow yard and he was towed to the dealership where he sat for 6 days until it was his “turn”. Of course no loaner the whole time and no estimate on time frame so I had 3 different rentals, all out of pocket. Then they called to tell me it was the battery. He sat for 6 days and I was out $500 in rentals alone, not including tow and the 250$ battery. I did submit everything for reimbursement but have yet to hear from them.
About 1 month ago he started thudding when turning. Made an appt for a month out because I need a loaner. It continued to worsen and I grew more and more leery of driving him. I did not want to be stranded again. I was thinking a CV was going. I didn’t trust him anymore. Even after I got him fixed, again, I would stillI be leery driving him. I researched cars and decided on a Mazda CX-30. Scariest drive in the bronco so far was the morning I was going to look at the Mazda. Test drove and decided to start moving forward with purchase. They took bronco to get his trade in value and came back with a number lower than what I was looking to get. I said okay thanks bye. And he said our tech who did the values thinks the transmission is going. It has just under 60k miles. I just laughed while crying inside. He got his boss and they ended up getting me a mazda loaner and getting the bronco in for repairs under my warranty, hopefully. I haven’t heard. My mazda was/is still in transit to me.

I am so sad to not have Bronco any more but I am so relieved to not have to depend completely on a very unreliable car and a wayyyyy to busy for their own good, dealership.

I was told to look into the lemon law but it didn’t seem like that would work for us because issues started after owning for a year. Do I have any chance of pursuing anything or shall I just be happy with my new little zoomy Mazda?

:(

What is South Carolinas lemon law definition of reasonable number of attempts?

I too would have given up on ownership of the vehicle in your experience.

I JUST had my battery die on Saturday in 102° heat! Stranded for an hour in the sun waiting for a tow. Of course didn't knew it was my battery until Ford looked at it. Everything just quit, wouldn't start, threw errors. Couldn't push the brake pedal in to put it in neutral and couldn't disengage parking brake. Of course my 2021 BL battery is out of warranty with 41,000+ miles. I am so bummed, and I just can't believe there was no battery warning or voltage indicator warning. $403 to replace the battery and do all the digital calibrations, etc.

I would hope Ford service is installing a better quality battery and not the stock one.

I just bought a ‘21 big bend and I’m having issues. Battery died rendering it useless. Good thing it was in my driveway. Brake issues and now a leaky roof rail. I drive a good deal and I was hoping for a better quality vehicle. I may get rid of it quicker than I want. Thanks for the feed back.

I stay away from first year vehicles but it seems the newer ones aren't that much better. The battery seems to be the biggest problem.

I'm sorry you're having so many problems! I've been driving my BL since Feb 2021 and my only complaint was the awful "whale call" moaning sounds happening when I backed up, until now with this battery. I am so mad I got zero warning on the battery dying.

It's not just Ford. I had a brand new 2020 Dodge Challenger. With less than 1000 miles and 5 months of ownership, the battery went.

There are so many electronic controls on new cars that it's amazing that a battery can keep up for as long as it does with todays vehicles.

An engineer at an auto battery manufacturing facility told me to never buy a battery with a life expectancy over 3 years with todays vehicles. If you get 3 years, you did good. Anything over that and you did great.

There are better quality batteries out there.

I have 2019 Ranger that has had the battery replaced twice under warranty. I know my issue is that I drive it exclusively in town and not every day. I keep it on a trickle charger while it is not being driven.

I have had low battery issues with my '22 BS OBX. The issue is mainly during the winter months when using the heated seats and steering wheel. Again it is driven in town, but is driven 5 days a week. So, I hook it up to a trickle charger once a week in the winter to deal with the issue.

The fact that it awakes and states making noises at you as you walk by with the key in your pocket should be our first clue the battery may not be long for the world. Even with that, mines been great for 16 months.

I'm going on 6 years with the stock OEM AGM battery in my 2018 F-150 with 15,000 miles on it. Every few weeks I put the battery tender on it for a couple of days. Seems to prolong the life expectancy.
