Forgive me if its been covered. I know tire size on stock wheels has been covered vigorously, but I was not able to locate info on if a wider wheel could still fit within the stock wheel well.

I have been looking at the RTR wheels, but don't want to modify any trim or suspension item. They are a half inch wider than stock at 17x7.5 with a 35mm offset (which I think brings the tire a bit closer to the suspension). Admittedly, I am a noob with this as I have always stuck with stock wheels, but I really like these RTR's and just wanna see how realistic it is for me. Is there a calculator out there that will help me with this specifically?

On the website they have their tire size recommendation at 245/60/17 which would be fine by me (unless I was able to go a tad bit higher) BUT that they also 'recommend' their spacer lift kit. I would not want to put this in.

I've seen that. Those Goodyear Wranglers look really nice.

But you still are using the stock wheels (which are also nice BTW!). I'm specifically talking about moving to a 1/2 wider wheel and if that will have any effect. My gut says no but I was hoping I could find a more definitive answer than my hunches.

There should not be any issue with a 8” wide wheel. There’s nothing close enough to cause an issue, given a similar offset.

Much appreciated. This one is a 7.5 inch wide wheel (vs 7 inch for stock) with a +35mm offset.

But I'll take it from your response that there is not enough there to cause an issue. Thank you!

You'll be fine, ran 8in wheel with 30mm offset no problem on 245/65/17. Only Issue i've encountered my current set up is 7.5in wheel with 30mm offset AND 1in wheel spacers on same tires and it slightly rubs pinch weld when loaded and turned in a certain position. So you will be fine

Thank you John. Now I gotta just figure out a way to hide them from my wife if I order. :giggle:

If your wife is anything like mine, she will know. My wife is a payroll/accountant, and nothing gets by her in my household.

She can give me a 20 dollar bill, and know to the penny how much I should have left in the wallet after buying a stick of gum and a soda for her from three weeks ago.

Nothing gets past the House Appropriations Committee Chairperson. On the one hand, it's a pain having to get agreement every time you want to buy something. On the other hand, here I am at retirement age not really worried about money. If it were just me, I'd probably live in a hovel with a Ferrari and four or five motorcycles sitting out front with no money for gas. I'm convinced the world would not be civilized without women.

Does anyone know or can anyone dig up what the weight is on the stock rim? I think the only way I'm gonna know is by taking it off and weighing it myself, but thought I'd throw this out there regardless.

I have the 17inch carbonized grey OEM

Answering my own question. Found a thread where someone claimed the stock 17in wheels ranged in the 25/26 lb range. No verification or link posted...but it sounds about right.

Found out that these RTR's are 24.3 lb

So the approximate .5- 1.5 lb drop (depending on how valid the OEM weight info, that was just a random comment on a random thread) gives me a little room to play with now that I have to get a heavier tire due to the size increase.

I don't know why I'm stuck on 'unsprung mass'....other than....I still probably think like a Mustang owner. However, I do enjoy performance, and don't want to rob my Badlands of any.

But yeah, I think my stock225/65/17 Pirelli Scorpion ATRs are 29 lb (per tirerack.com), so maybe if I get the Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse or Firestone Destination AT, they both are at like 31/32 lbs, and upsprung mass will be a wash.

Ultimately, I just want to have a set of shoes I'm proud of. You guys have seem my build photos. Those guys have got to go. I really never liked these Carbonized Grey rims.

Unsprung weight also affects component life. The heavier the wheel/tire combo the harder the dampers, bushings, etc. in your suspension have to work to control them.

Yes sir. It does.

As I've stated, this is my first "real" off road warrior type vehicle. So I've been really trying to get up to speed with the BS's capabilities, and using Youtube to really deep dive. Came across an interview with a jeep dealer and they asked him what's his #1 denier of warranty, and he quickly said tires and wheels that are TOO BIG for the small displacement engine. He said it was an easy deny on that for anything powertrain or suspension related. Not saying I agree, just forwarding some hear-say.
