Can the horn chirp be disabled? Hate leaving the running car to get carryout/mail only to get "yelled" at.

Heya — every so often, when we lock the car and walk away it honks at us (two quick successive honks). The engine is off, the lights are always on ā€œAutoā€, we have both keys with us outside the car. Why is it honking!?
Yes, and sometimes before we get out of the car. Not very often, but it has happened more than once. 23,000 miles on the car.

I do deliveries for Meals on Wheels, so I'm in and out of my BS quite a lot. Sometimes I leave the engine running and sometimes I shut down. Every time I jump out with the engine running I get the two beep notice. Like someone else, I'd like to know an easy way to temporarily stop that.

I don't know what you'd term "easy", but the feature is generally able to be disabled with a compatible OBDII reader with MS-CAN support (for a genuine adapter I'd trust [OBDLink EX] $60 MSRP, sometimes goes on sale for $40) and FORScan (extended license trials of 2 months are currently free indefinitely as the developer is Russian and can't accept money due to sanctions) can disable this in most Ford/Lincoln vehicles. I would need to get out my reader and boot FORscan up to see if the option for it shows up for the BS.

Mine does it randomly about once a month. Fob in the center tray. Pull up, shut it off, grab phone, open door, honks twice. Annoying, but happens infrequently enough that I never remember to try and source the reason.
Mine does that too! It drives me nuts because it always does it randomly and it’s always after I get off work late at night when people are sleeping. I get so embarrassed because of it and I wish I knew the reason why it does it so I can get it to stop.

Thanks for all the thoughts but I don’t think it’s any of them. Engine is off, lights are off, and fob is not in the car. And I’m not pressing any buttons when it happens
I have had the same thing happen. Car off, in park, brake on, doors closed. Then open to get out. Two beeps.

FORScan is a lot of fun but when going into service for a module ALWAYS back up the original AsBuilt for a module like the BdyCM (or whatever you're working with), save locally, and I'd recommend save to a cloud storage like Google Drive, Dropbox, etc... you can load the defaults online from Ford OASIS, but Ford sometimes has different data than even was factory build (blocks present or not present).

FORScan is very well developed but nothing is perfect and the config data is so small/backup so quick there is no harm of doing so. Again, it's not something that kills me with stress (I restored one of the modules in my BS BL from OASIS rather than a backup from the car with no adverse impact), but just a word of wisdom.

Also please buy a reputable OBDII scanner. I would not buy an OBDII scanner with a physical switch between regular and MS-CAN bus mode...spend a little extra and get one with genuine ELM327 chip, firmware updates, support, and automatic handling of the protocols like a compatible OBDLink adapter...Not sponsored by them or anything, but I've used their adapters for 8 years to do advanced diagnostics and config changes for 9 years without any issue whatsoever.

@Tom 5778 And have you confirmed that each time you got the double beeps there was nothing sitting on the back seats? Doesn’t take much weight for the BS to think someone is sitting back there, try putting some weight on the rear seats to see if that is the reason for the double honk.

Thanks for the great advice and information. Having worked in IT including Help Desk for an international engineering firm, I can echo the mantra: Backup, Backup, Backup. So much less heartache if everyone followed that simple rule.

Also, a special thanks for the nice OBD device advice (alliterate much?). Given it's the primary connection I don't want to penny pinch. Save a buck, brick the truck (jeez, I'm fire).

You are doing Dogs work!

I have that alert turned off, plus I know it’s not that because I’ve had rear passengers before and it’s never done it.

Yes I have the rear occupants alert turned off as well but you likely never shut off the car, opened the door, locked the vehicle and walked away with people still in the back seat then heard the double honk.
