If it happens again, I would get a video recording of the vehicle operating without the gauges functioning and DEFINITELY take it back to the dealer. You need to have a complaint--verified with video evidence--logged in Ford's system prior to your warranty expiring.

I hate electrical issues!
Imagine being a technician that has to work on one AND deal with a frustrated customer...

Mark, I definitely will video record the event if it happens again. So far, it hasn't, and today, this morning we got a good downpour and it hasn't affected the BS at all. It's funny that only the instrument cluster and the headlight knob light (also on the steering wheel side) were affected. I can't believe the battery is involved. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow morning. I kind of hope it happens again while I'm driving to them! Otherwise, I'll ask them to put it on the scope and hope for a code or codes to show up.

No disagreement about can’t believe the battery is involved … however there are class action (battery) lawsuits on non Ford vehicles which I had one of those vehicles that had a half dozen electrical gremlins over 110,000 miles (all battery issues) and many dozens of people reporting electrical gremlins that eventually they gave in and got a new battery which solved those.

but it does seem more like you have a wiring or connector issue possibly exacerbated by rain etc.

Wow Dude! I don't think I could handle multiple electrical gremlins over the years! If this is a one time occurrence then good for me. Especially if the dealer can find a cause. Just based on what the BS is doing now though, I'm not sure they will. Drove it all day today in the rain, used all electrical stuff and it never acted up. Especially the instrument cluster. Normal as always. One interesting thing happened I believe to be true, while the cluster was dark, I don't think the odometer was working either. I swear the last 10 miles we drove it home didn't register. Spooky!

Subaru .. class action lawsuits on battery issues.

About the odo, it continues to accumulate actual miles regardless of the display but interesting that perhaps the power failed to whatever module provides the odometer function.., maybe that is a clue for you to research with the dealership?

but for sure if a critical module had a fault it would seem like DTC codes will have been stored

BdyCM - Body Control Module
BCM: Body Control Module
ECU: Engine Control Unit

I will definitely bring this up to the service manager tomorrow. Thanks for the info! Does the ECU reboot on its own? Or does it have to be remotely done?

Hmmm … everything in the vehicle attempts to come up but some people like to disconnect the battery for minutes to over night.

Went to the dealer this morning and set up an appointment for tomorrow morning to take care of the recall 22S73 drain tube and computer programming. Since the problem hasn't reoccured, the consensus is that once they update the system, it will clear the issue. There were no codes thrown. They will also test the battery. Since my BS has the co-pilot 360+, it might have sat for awhile waiting for the chip. Anyway, hopefully this will solve the mystery.

I had the fuel drain tube/pcm programing done as well as the battery checked and all is good. The "glitch" that caused my instrument cluster to go dark is and will remain a mystery. It could have been I opened the driver door twice while backing up, then going forward, shutting the door, stopping, my wife opening the passenger door, getting out before I shut the motor off, then, I opened the driver door, got out, closed the door, touching the security pad on the handle at the same time I hit the lock button on the key fob. Or maybe this is all a dream. Anyway, that's why she's (my BS, not my wife) called Spooky! ?

Wait. I thought that was the sequence to activate the secret engineer Easter Egg mode that displays "NOT A JEEP WRANGLER" on the instrument display.

Ive had similar issues where get in bronco animation would get stuck or radio would goto am 540 station Sometimes stay black or even keep reverse cam active. Took to dealer they rebooted the mysync 3 . Had same issues with mysync 3 on our ecosport as well. They ended up replacing the radio and bcm both times. It has not started to do it again . But now im 70k miles and out of warranty so fun times
