I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Ford is worried about fuel vapour gathering under the engine cover if your injector cracks. Can’t think of any other legit reason to discontinue.

Since I’m a boring person, I did this boring task. I had my parts department print a list of all parts departments that show the cover in stock. We limited it to a 1,000 miles radius of Illinois. Results:
  • Most mislabeled having the part or could not find it
  • Two have it but it is broken and is being returned
  • One is spoken for, even though it has been more than 18 months, I can’t buy it
  • One is for a Sport they have in the shop
  • One was a long hilarious boring story but anyway, I can’t buy it (and by hilarious, I mean that he could not stop laughing)
Then ….. one has it, it is in stock and they will sale it. However, they have tried to put it on a Bronco Sport and were not successful. They think it’s the wrong part. That one is at Bird/Kultgen in Waco,TX if anyone lives nearby and wants to try it.

Hood insulation is available. All years are the same. I just installed one on my '23 OBX. It took the dealer 3 days to get it. Attaching clips are included. Perfect fit and a 10-minute DIY project. Correct part # is M1PX 16738 B. Cost is about $200.00.

Luckily, I ordered my 1.5 Engine Cover last September before my OBX was even built.

The Base and Big Bend do not come with a hood insulation blanket. None of the trims now come with an engine cover. The OP’s question was are they needed. My response is no. Your mileage may vary.
I got tired of the thought of throwing more money at Ford that they do not deserve at this point.

I'd rather have the engine cover, hood insulation can look raggedy after awhile, it collects grime.

I put one on my 2023 bb but you certainly don’t need it. I just wanted it completed it doesn’t seem Ford had the time or money to put one on. ? ?

Surprised to see hood insulation on my wife's '23 yesterday when I checked fluid levels before a trip. Wasn't expecting it.

Don't have hood blanket or engine cover on my '22 Escape.

I got one for $100. Where did you order yours?

I ordered mine through the dealer where I bought my vehicle. Others on this forum got theirs for about $100 also. I should of shopped but thought all dealers would charge about the same. Big mistake. The same thing just happened to me with the hood insulation pad I bought. Other folks got it for a lot less than I paid.

The day I ordered my Badlands they told me it is suppose to come with an engine cover so I'll be looking for it. I'll get a hood liner before long. I always thought it was there to keep the heat off the hood and protect the paint.

Our 21 didn't come with the cover. Ordered it though Tasca Parts Dot Com. If I remember right it was $55.00. Later production they added a brace toward the rear of the engine. Had to remove some of the foam to fit. I like the look. Cleans up the engine bay.

If that brace held a breather tube, you are supposed to remove it, as the "pin" under the brace is used by the cover to snap onto.

Do you have the part number for the engine cover for the 2.0? It wouldn’t surprise me if that dealer was trying to put a 2.0 cover on a 1.5.
