Went into Oh'Really Auto Parts to pick up some touch-up paint for my Transit...Came back out and someone had tried really hard to break in. Hit the driver's and passenger's window glass a total of 6 times most likely with a center punch, never broke through. I'm really getting my money's worth out of this $50 glass deductible.

The two front glass are laminated (as well as the windshield). So there's this material (helps w sound proofing) sandwiched b/w two panes of glass... If you roll down your window you'll notice it. The material makes it very, very hard to break through as it won't shatter. Fortunately they didn't try the rear doors where the glass is not laminated. Those would've shattered easily!

The bronco sport got the highest rating in every IIHS crash test, Ive seen stories of BS rolling over multiple times with little more than superficial damage, their windows are apparently smash proof - this vehicle seems pretty indestructible :D
More the reason why I'm glad to have one myself. It keeps me in a good state of mind knowing we have a safe vehicle. The Maverick should perform very similarly since they're the same platform and share a lot of parts as a result.

I'm not in TN, that's just a reference to a Tom Waits song. Happened in San Leandro CA which is just south of Oakland. Property crime is rampant in broad daylight. If you aren't bleeding the cops aren't coming, no exaggeration, they say "call your insurance company". Kind of wishing I was in TN, or pretty much anywhere else.

I set up an insurance claim which of course is operated by Safelite. I had an appointment for a week and a half, and they canceled a few hours before because they didn't have the parts. That was yesterday, they can't tell me when it will be ready.

I imagine they are using an aftermarket glass, and claim it has the soundproofing layer. I can ask for the OEM glass but it needs to be "approved". I'm probably going to call a local shop instead, wonder if the OEM glass is worth the hassle?

I would if it were me. But that’s just MO.

I will never get railroaded into using Safelite again, 3+ weeks after the damage they have canceled my appointment a second time at the last minute. They say they can't get the parts.

So I called my local guy; parts are available at his distributor and he can install tomorrow.

Just curious; was there something in clear view that the attempted break-in thieves where trying to get? Seems weird that someone would just do in a parking lot of a parts store to steal the car...they wanted something that was in clear view to "grab and go" I'd think.

Around here they don't need to see anything. They will break into pickup trucks with NRA stickers on the assumption there is a gun under the seat. I had a bum break into my VW Golf when I did have cordless tools under the cargo cover--no way he knew they were there, he even pulled down half of the back seat but didn't find them.

I'm always very careful not to leave anything in sight. I did have my hard hat in the back of the BS so maybe he assumed I had tools.

More backstory, I had gone to the In N Out which I know is a bad parking lot. Parked right next to the window where I knew I could sit and watch the car from 10 feet away. I actually watched a sketchy guy casing my car, when he saw me watching he pretended like he got something in his eye. After I finished my burger, I drove across the intersection to the Oh'Really, and I think he followed me. In retrospect I should have hit the panic button as soon as I saw him looking.
