Yeah like shortage of masking tape masking paper so can't paint the body two different colors? And as a result limit colors to black and grey? I can't have an all Area 51, no, just can:t let that happen except on lower trims?? And we are supposed to take this seriously? Like if Ford actually goes through with this they win the dumbest constraint excuse award ever.
I know from looking at mine that they paint the black and then paint the body color over it. But one of the reasons to get a uplevel trim is for the two-tone look. This does seem impossibly stupid, but I bet they have the shells in black or grey and that's why the all-51 or all-cg are not options.

I've been watching a TV sitcom called "American Auto". It's basically "The Office", but in a car manufacturer setting, i.e. 'what if a car company was run by total assholes?' There was one episode where they had to build a prototype car in record time. So what do they do? They go to the employee parking lot and start ripping things off cars to build a new ultimate Frankensteinmobile. This totally feels like a scheme they would cook up.

I’m guessing it has something to do with the factory equipment. Something in the painting area that allows them to do the 2-tone paint job is broken and they can’t get the parts to fix it right now. I’m sure they run the roof colors in a different booth than the main color.
Anyone that thinks Ford is doing this to be mean or because they are stupid just doesn’t understand what it takes to run a factory. This is a supply constraint but for factory equipment, not for supplies or parts on the vehicle.

Due to constraints on two tone paint schemes all Outer Banks will require Shadow Black exterior paint color. All Badlands will require Shadow Black or Carbonized Gray exterior paint color to match the roof paint color. Not sure how long this will last, just noticed the message on Ford's ordering system.
FordVideoGuy, Is there a link that you can post that verifies your post? Thanks, and I appreciate it.

He's a dealer. He gets the information straight from Ford. I'm not sure he can post copies of it online but he's always honest and his information is always accurate

This makes me think of Ford at the beginning. You can get any color you want, as long as it's black.

Just spoke with my dealer and he said that this is not correct. The roof color is what Ford is advising about, not the body exterior color. I am sure Mr. Bartz means to provide accurate information, however in this case, he may be incorrect. I have an order in production status now for over 10 days and our Badlands ordered in Area 51 color will be painted that color per my dealership GM, that does the ordering. To avoid any conflict, please do not ask what dealership I am dealing with. Thanks!

I was glad to see your post. I spoke to my dealership about this also. They said this is not correct, also.
I was searching for a 22 this morning, thinking this was my only option unless waiting for an indefinite months!
I hope this is cleared up soon!

My wife is getting Area 51, too. She'll be taking the little alien out of my Escape.

I figured it wasn’t correct because if they were having an issue with paint, I would think they’d mention it on the build your own tool on the website that hey, we can’t do these other colors except for these, sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm assuming this only applies to new orders. Is that correct? Do you think it will affect my white badlands that is scheduled to be built in December?
There is to much I think I guess. Why not just stop reporting incomplete info and passing people off. I would rather know nothing that a half ass story. Of speculation.

Where did you find this out? I looked at the building tool for the Bronco Sport and no where does it mention color restraints. The only restraints that I saw are they’re currently not going to build base trims at the moment.
Ford's WBDO (ordering system) message and from their commodity constraint doc updated weekly. I'm a dealer. I do weekly livestream that goes over things like this to keep people informed.

See? They’re currently not doing Base trims at the moment, but no where on the building tool does it say anything about color restraints for both the Outer Banks and the Badlands.

This is a temporary issue not a change for the model year. Just saying if you have an order you may not get your order scheduled.
