Actually, there are in-production vehicles that have both a turbo AND a supercharger.
takes me back to my cobalt ss days, where some people were adding a turbo plus the factory supercharger. ?

I wonder what made GM to decide a supercharger would be great for a 4 banger ...?

Superchargers are great for instant and linear power but sacrifice some top end power punch and overall economy.
Depends on where Chevy engineers needed the power curve.

I had a 2003 MINI Cooper S with a supercharger and that whine was addictive. The engine was actually used elsewhere in the world in PT Cruisers. It was a 1.6L and with the supercharger pulley changed to something like 15% smaller the car had over 200HP. It was quick, but not really fast especially by today’s standards.

The OEM turbo is a twin scroll unit, so it already performs the function of a second turbo in a typical twin-turbo setup. That aside, there is only one exhaust manifold on the engine, and it already has a turbocharger installed on it. Where would you install a second turbo.
So, a standard twin turbo setup has one turbo for low end and one for high end, right? Basically they kick in at different RPMs? Are you saying the turbo on the 3 cylinder does that all in one unit? If so, that’s awesome!

I think Pumaspeed has a turbo upgrade for the Puma and Fiesta. Same engine, isn't it?

Seems like THEY weren't even sure as they switched to a turbo mid-way through right?
Yes around 2007 or so the Cobalt SS went from supercharged to turbo. My daughter has a 2008 Cobalt SS factory turbo puts down 290 hp and 330 tq to the wheels with full exhaust, intake, hard pipes, and tune. Engine is stock other wise. Has 130k miles on it and prev owner street raced it frequently so it been run hard for a long time. Engine is rock solid does not leak anything or use any oil. Who ever those GM engineers were they nailed it cause those engine are super awesome.

Oh and no catch can either doesn't seem to need one.

Hold up. The twin scroll Borg Warner unit is on the 2.0L. The 1.5L uses a Continental turbo featuring RAAX technology. It’s not a twin scroll turbine, but its design offers the same benefits. You can read more about it here (the article is about Audi selecting the Continental turbo for its A3, but it discusses RAAX): https://www.automotiveworld.com/news-releases/new-continental-turbocharger-innovative-raax-turbine-technology-now-production-audi-a3/
