Another thread ( https://www.broncosportforum.com/forum/threads/does-anybody-just-go-for-drives-anymore.22634/) threatens derailment with tales of purposeful travel and commutes (mea maxima culpa, and about to make it worse), I thought I’d kick one open dedicated to just that.

My most memorable regular commute was in the early ‘80’s between San Diego and Long Beach every week. Me and my 450 Nighthawk taking the 8-5-405 out & back for about a year and a half. Shirtsleeves in the summer and a bunny suit in the winter. It really was a blast, to be honest. These days i wouldn't do it on a dare, but i do kinda miss it.

Rode my 2002 R1 into Detroits inner city to our assembly plant dodging packs of wild dogs and people running stop signs & red lights. Even the police didn't come to a full stop at intersections down there :cwl:
I had a client in downtown Detroit once, so I stayed at the Marriott in the Renaissance Center. The Security chief for the client (retired DPD Sgt) wouldn't even let me take a cab, insisting that he pick me up and drop me off door-to-door. Yeah, kinda sketchy. Best part was he gave me a tour of the area, making sure to point out the cop bars so I could find a safe place to drink.

Not in a vehicle - DC METRO. Five days a week from W. Hyattsville to McPherson Square. Anything and everything you can imagine, people and goings on. Some days I just closed my eyes and prayed. :frown:

GM has moved out of the Renaissance Center, two of the five towers are to be demolished and converting the others to residential and mixed use. The new river front parks are a welcome addition to the downtown area.

45min - 1 hr drive from the Southwest side of Chicago to a western suburb daily for a year back in mid 80's. The best part was the long overpass over the rail yards. There were many times when I pushed the "Brown Bomber" Pontiac Bonneville to high speeds over that overpass. That car just cruised along!!!

I did the northwest suburbs from 1980 - 1988. It was 18 miles of mostly backroads with a couple of stop signs and one light in 1980. Took me all of 20 minutes unless I caught the light. When I left in 1988, it was taking almost 2 hours to get home. A dozen or more 4 way stops, several traffic lights and more than I can count stupid drivers on a daily basis. Especially at the 4 way stops. It was pretty simple, first one to stop goes first. But no, it became a game of who should go next! I don’t miss it at all.
