I am truly amazed at the American public's forgetfulness. After/during COVID, this nation realized how dependent it was on everything from everywhere but here. The hue and cry was never again should America be dependent on computer chips, drugs, basically everything. Trucks piled up in parking lots waiting for chips. Christmas toys were left on ships.
Forcing businesses to move here will have long-lasting effects on our national security.
Also for those who cry that the factories will take years, watch the Ford F150 factory switch over to aluminum on YouTube, they gutted and retooled a factory in less than two months.
You are talking about the “execution” of plan that took 3 years ????

yeah it was done in 8 weeks but you cannot discard all the planning, designing, ordering tooling (that came from Mexico and China) and everything that was aligned before they got to “execute” this plan.

you really make it sound like they can walk up to a Walmart, buy everything they need, and boom switch done.

How many automobile manufacturers call Canada home? 0.000! Canada is in no position to re-tool and pivot. The tariffs will bring manufacturing jobs back to the USA.

The power of American ingenuity should not be forgotten is my point. That is what won WWII when they built tanks and planes faster than they could be lost. Remember during COVID when factories retool to make masks, https://www.triplepundit.com/story/2020/companies-retooling-operations-covid-19/88921

The vast majority of parts/components can quickly be moved back to the USA. We are an economic juggernaut. Canada, not so much.

At a hefty price increase. Our U.S. labor costs per employee are high. labor in other countries are lower; the reason manufacturing and assembly lines are moved there.

Don't get me wrong...I'm all for moving assembly and manufacturing back to the U.S. But the price for the vehicles they do that for will rise quite a bit.

The labor cost for Canada vs the USA is pretty close. Not so much with Mexico. The tariffs will eventually help if our country has the gonads to see it through. I’m not convinced that the price of production in the US is higher than anywhere else. If it is, then why are so many other countries already building vehicles here and planning even more factories?

Jim the cost of labor is actually significantly less in Canada , the Canadian dollar is at .71 cents US meaning it’s 30% less. This is one of the key incentives for manufacturing here. This also is a large incentive for the film industry, which is why so much TV and film production has moved to Ontario. Members of my family work in productions here such as Star Trek and hope this doesn't become a target of tariffs.

The fact that 1 Canadian dollar = .71 US dollar doesn’t have the effect you speak of. The cost of labor in Canada and the USA is almost equal as the photo shows. Companies that locate in Canada weigh many different factors before making a decision. Besides labor costs they look at supply chains, transportation, and raw materials, just to name a few. As far as Hollywood goes, you can have the entire business.

In the spirit of being accurate I wanted to share an updated cost of labor chart. While no where near 30% less for labor costs in Canada it does show that Canada enjoys a 15% lead in cheaper labor costs. That said, many other variables come into play.

Wondering if this is overall or manufacturing only…
