This one does as confirmed. So that goes back to my original question- it has always had them, I never had a controller that I knew of (nothing on the dash ) and unless automatic never used - so will it be an issue if they are not used on a 1500 lb teardrop ( maybe 1800 when loaded)

Technically no, though they do make kits to add install trailer brake controllers, for about 200$ or so, if you have the confidence or ability to install one, you really can't go wrong with adding the ability to use brakes from your trailer, especially in cold environments

Went to cat scale this morning- because of the short wheel base it is difficult to get the thing set correctly- this is what it read - not sure the axel readings are correct but it appears that the gross weight is about 600 pounds below allowable 6260 - is that correct and does this seem like a non-issue to pull - it was loaded as we would load

Then as you note, you are well below the GCWR. Assuming the weight in your car and trailer is properly distributed (at least 10% of total trailer weight on the tongue) you should be fine.
