Those are great Android tips Mark.

Here are some more including for iPhone:

Bronco Sport:
a. Install latest SYNC3 Software (use the 8” Screen Settings and locate the ‘View Current Software Versions’ menu which shows the Sync version currently installed (do not scan for updates and do not use the Ford website to check if latest Sync is installed as those can be unreliable ways to check), verify this version or later is installed:
SYNC 3, Software Version: 3.4 Build 23188 PRODUCT
b. Perform SYNC3 System Reset
c. Perform a Master Reset
See iPhone Step #4 to add the iPhone (Bluetooth and CarPlay)
d. Unplug 12V car battery for 2 minutes and reconnect

iPhone:
1. Reboot the iPhone
2. Install latest IOS Software
3. Replace USB cable with a new Apple Certified USB-C to USB-C Cable (iPhone 15 models and higher), Lightening Cable (iPhone 14 models and lower)
4. Unplug the iPhone from the USB port, delete (remove) the iPhone from SYNC3, plug the iPhone into the USB port, allow iPhone to connect over Bluetooth, allow iPhone to connect with CarPlay.
5. Try a 2nd iPhone (with latest IOS Software)
6. Google and use techniques to clean the iPhone connector
7. Try CarPlay wireless adaptor

Check Fuse:
Find the passenger side fuse box
Locate, remove and test fuse #17: SYNC, Receiver transceiver module, Integrated control panel (mini 15A), replace if bad fuse

If all of the above fails to solve phone charging/connectivity issues:

Schedule service with Dealership and request:
- Run diagnostics on the USB Ports (USB-C, USB-A) below the 8” screen for proper operation
- Test the wiring cable between the above USB Ports and the APIM (SYNC3 Module) including power, ground, fuse, etc. all for proper operation
- Run diagnostics on the APIM (SYNC3 Module)

If necessary, the dealership may need to replace the above USB Ports, replace the wiring cable between the USB Ports and the APIM (SYNC3 Module) and replace the APIM (SYNC3 Module).

Confirm charging/phone connectivity issues are resolved.

Out of nowhere every-time I try to plug in my iPhone 15 pro max to my car via USB-C to USB-C I get this message and my Apple CarPlay won’t work.
It had been working ever since I got the phone in October and recently it stopped. When I plug it in, it doesn’t even charge my phone anymore. I reset the system in Sync and it’s still not working. Any solutions?
If your iPhone is no longer being charged from the USB-C port below the 8” Display I would first obtain a new Apple certified USB-C to USB-C data cable. It’s also possible the USB-C connector on your iPhone is clogged with something. And I would try a different iPhone 15 to see if that works ok.

Charging does not depend on your iOS version or the Sync version only the iPhone, its cable, the USB Port, the fuse controlling the USB Port and of course associated wiring and the APIM in the Bronco Sport.

Check Fuse:
Find the passenger side fuse box
Locate, remove and test fuse #17: SYNC, Receiver transceiver module, Integrated control panel (mini 15A), replace if bad fuse

See post #14 - if a 2nd iPhone 15 also has issues you likely need to make a trip to the dealership but you can also check the applicable fuse.

Btw you did state you have “latest Sync” but I didn’t see your version - the best way to check is View Current Software Versions:

If a Sync update is needed, the best method is via use of your own USB Device following Ford’s instructions at this link:

Not an expert, but would say to try another cable to make sure your cable hasn’t gone kaput. If that’s not it the port may have gone belly-up.

I don't get this message, but I can pretty much never get android auto to work. It worked when I first set it up, but now nothing. My phone tells me use a different USB plug, but none work. Either the Type C or the Type A ports.

Have you tried a different phone? If so, and you still get the same error message, then it sounds like the ports in your car may be janky. I would absolutely take it in to the dealership to have it checked out.

You could be using a cord that only allows for charging and not data transfer.

I have not since I don't have another one to try. I vaguely remember maybe using a different cable at first, so I might be using a cable without data transfer as @Rogerthat898 mentioned. I'll have to try another cable first as well.
