My '88 Bronco II had that as well. The Bronco II was a larger/taller vehicle so the outside mounted tire worked well. I don't think it works with the Bronco Sport; just my simple opinion.
Enjoy the ride, and rock it out, Damon77!
Same - I had a '88 Bronco II as well. I loved that truck.

Yes it blocks the license plate so you need to relocate it.
Yes it blocks the backup camera.
There have been people who have made ones that offset the wheel to the side so that it blocks neither.
The purpose for many is looks. But for many others, it frees up the interior for more storage. People who use theirs for camping tend to appreciate that extra room, and those who leave the pavement while doing so like not having the cargo basket someone is going to mention, reducing the departure angle.
This is why I've been thinking about one. Might get a buddy to help me weld one up. Hopefully keeping it as close to the bumper and liftgate as possible. Will come up with a way to clamp the base to the D ring recovery point to keep it form bouncing around.

There's a tire well for the spare, so why mount on back? Maybe easier access to the tire, but you don't gain any interior cargo capacity. My $0.02

How do you not get any extra interior cargo capacity when that tire well is now empty? 30 inches across by almost 10 inches deep. The volume of a medium backpack.
That could be a couple LifPo batteries and an inverter. Or a couple light to midweight sleeping bags, and a weeks worth of clothing. Or all of your recovery gear (a pair of hard and three soft shackles, a 20 foot recovery strap to make a bridle to keep force even, a 30 foot recovery strap, heavy duty gloves, Viar compressor, and tire repair kit.

I've seen what can be placed in tire wells that are even smaller, the ones on the 3rd and 2nd generation Subaru Forester when people use them for off road car camping ("overlanding"), and use a hitch mounted carrier.
