Hi, I had posted before having difficultly getting my 2021 Bronco Sport from out of state getting a smog in California. I found the problem and finally got it after multiple dealership visits because they could not find the problem. I thought I would share if anyone is having the same problem. There is a recall on 2021 Ford Bronco Sports- NHTSA Number 22v859, Manufacturer Campaign # 22S73, Recall Date 11/22/2022, Status/Remedy available, Description PCM Programming and drain tube installation. The dealership should be able to reset this and you should be good to go. This took me months to figure out!
Someone else also helped me with this code number that the dealer was able to look up to fix.

Our contact at Ford asked us to publish this Special Service Message in the event you run into any network communications issues with 20-21 Ford Escape Platform vehicles listed above

I live California and have purchased many new cars out of state, all of which are required by Ca. to be smogged.

I think it’s kind of silly as almost all new cars made are 50 state emissions legal

I agree! Definitely a silly requirement!

I'll never live in California. Someday it will be an island.

Other Bronco Sport owners also reported issues with passing the smog test in their state (not all were Cali owners) and reported the following:
SSM 50336 - … Escape/Corsair, 2021 Bronco Sport - Communication Fault With Emissions Inspection Equipment

There was no real issue except for the following temporary issue which would never have been seen except that they had the misfortune of getting the smog test done too soon after disconnecting and or replacing the vehicles 12V battery.

ā€œIf you disconnect or replace the battery: Any time the ECU is reset, the ECU has to go through a 150-250 mile drive cycle to relearn emissions information. Wait until after this drive cycle otherwise a vehicle emissions inspection may fail when the inspection station equipment cannot communicate with the vehicle. While mileage and cycle will vary all vehicles have this function.ā€

California’s way of getting more money from the buyer. Like your yearly tabs aren’t enough. First year renewal for my friend’s 2022 Equinox in California - almost $400.00. First year renewal for my 2022 Bronco Sport in Washington - $78.00. My baby will stay registered in WA.

My wife was born in Oakland California and raised in San Leandro.

She wouldn't go back if you put a gun to her head.

My wife's biological dad moved to CA right after WWII. It was a paradise then. By the time I went to Berkeley in the '80s, it was overcrowed, but Concord was still a very nice place to live. I wouldn't move there now, but NM isn't that much better. We seem to adopt most of the idiotic ideas from the left coast.

Bought a car out of state in ā€˜86 — it was a California car, even had the California smog sticker in the engine bay. Still couldn’t register it until I had it inspected by CHP and got a smog check/certificate. If I could get out of here they’d see nothing but exhaust and tail lights!
