On our 2nd Bronco Sport Big Bend (my daughter totaled her 2022).... This is my daughter's car- she has a 2023 Bronco Sport Big Bend. We bought it new and it has a little over 13,000 miles. My wife and I have been driving it a couple of times a week while our daughter is at college, (since she can't have her car as a freshman). We have been noticing very strong exhaust smells coming into the car in the last few weeks- especially when idling. Thought at first it was the car in front of us, but this smell is happening all the time. Will send it to the dealer this week, but wanted to see if others were experiencing the same issue and if there were successful repairs, and what all did that entail.... Thanks for any help/ advice. Really need to get this fixed asap, as wife is super sensitive to smells and will make my life uncomfortable until it's fixed. I'm not as sensitive to smells, but even I noticed it. There is definitely something wrong as it didn't do this until recently. We've owned this about a year now.

Good morning. Can you please send over a message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer? I would like to look into this on my end.

The 'smells' is the least of the problem. If it's actually exhaust fumes, you could be exposed to carbon monoxide. I would immediately take it to your dealership for testing and remediation.

We aren't driving it at the moment. The dealership is picking it up on Wednesday morning to take a look. We have a great dealership in Hillsborough, NC, and I take all three of my Ford's there- (2023 SD F350 Diesel, and 2022 F150, as well as the Bronco Sport).

Keep us informed as to what they find, and if it was corrected.

New info... thought I'd try driving it around the corner to see if I could find out where the leak may be coming from, and about a 1/4 of a mile from the house, the oil (low pressure) light came on. Immediately returned home. The vehicle had an oil change at the dealer about 4,000 miles ago. checked the oil, and there was plenty in there. Not going to try to drive it again until it goes in the shop. Just wonder if that's another indication of what could be wrong.

Good luck and hope that your dealer gets you squared away quickly and addresses all your questions. I've had a pretty strong smell of exhaust and or brakes on a couple of occasions but chalked it up to the vehicle in front of me burning oil or having brake problems since i could find no issues with my BS. Like i said, it was only on a couple of occasions so i'm keeping an eye on it (or should i say "keeping a nose on it"), Again, good luck and let us know what they find!

Could this be related to the cracked fuel injector problem that was recalled?

I think that was on the 2022s.... We had a 2022 before my daughter totalled it, and it was due to be recalled, but she sent it away for good. So we bought a 2023, and to my knowledge there are no recalls at the moment.

Could you be more specific? Just to be clear, the recall was not due to cracked fuel injectors, it was to install a drain tube to mitigate the danger of fire in the event of a cracked fuel injector. Are you thinking the drain tube somehow collects exhaust fumes and routes them into the cabin?

This does not apply to the 2023 models to my knowledge

It’s exactly how I said it. Could it be related to that issue? I thought you could still smell the fumes from that. It was just a question.

If you have a fuel leak in the engine compartment (from a cracked fuel injector, for example) you might smell fuel fumes in the cabin. I believe OP is talking about exhaust fumes, not fuel fumes. I would not suspect a cracked fuel injector if I were smelling exhaust fumes in the cabin.

UPDATE: Had it towed to the dealership. (It's only had one oil change) and the dealer said that the filter had not been tightened properly. Oil had leaked out and was burning and creating the smell. And it seems that's also the reason the low oil pressure light came on. Dealer said they cleaned it the best they could- still smells bad, but should get better once it all burns off.
