Hopefully this isnt too far off subject, but while I've been to other parts of North Carolina, I've never been to the 'Outer Banks' coastal area. Can someone recommend a beach and/or place to stay? Are the beaches "wadeable" and/or swimmable? Are you able to drive straight up the coast with the aid of ferries? I've always wanted to visit and cross that area off my list. Thanks in advance!

The places to stay are numerous. Just depends on where you want to go. Kitty hawk is a very touristy area. Further north or south is more spread out. You can drive without taking ferries. You are out in the ocean so to speak. The water is colder, the wind is always blowing. The waves are bigger. Still a great place to visit though.
