So I replaced my non B&O speakers and all the doors in my outer banks. I bought new tweeters as well but I can't figure out how to get to them. I started popping up the piece that runs along the front of the dashboard near the windshield. But there are two places at each end that won't pop up easily. And I don't want to pry too hard because I don't want to break it. How do I get to these? Do I have to remove the a pillars? Has anyone done this yet?

Just replaced mine. You must remove the A pillar. Pull out from the top then upwards. There’s a bolt under it that needs removed. Then you can remove the entire grill to grill section. I took some snips and cut off the factory tweeter mounting bracket and used the hole under it. Wrapped 3m sticky tape around tweeter housing and stuck it in the hole. Probably better ways to do it but it works for me.

Did your tweeter upgrades improve the sound?

Not as much as I’d like. I ended up moving them to the A Pillars last night with some adjustable aluminum pods I got on eBay. There was just enough room to squeeze the hardware in there without touching the vent. Now they sound perfect. I’m going to be hooking up an Alpine amp to them when I have the time.

I would personally recommend disconnecting them and putting them in the door or the pillar. If you're putting in quality speakers you don't really want them bouncing off the windshield. I had Focal PS165RFX 2 way components installed up front and had them mounted in the door. They aren't facing towards me but Focal uses an inverted tweeter and the stereo projection is amazing. They are barely noticeable where they are and I had them put the amp behind the dash so it's an OEM feel with amazing sound quality.
I used the Focal Access line in my doors and those inverted tweeters definitely shine!

How did you run the amp and what model? I feel like that’s my next step to truly unlock the speakers’ potential and hopefully one with a DSP to maybe tune the audio better than the stock radio allows.

I added an Alpine R-A60F 4 channel amp 100 watts x 4. It sounds amazing! Didn’t see anyone else on here add a 4 channel amp which is crazy since the factory radio puts out hardly any watts. The left front door speaker and left tweeter are connected together somewhere in the dash. Same with the right side. Same color wires are used. That’s the only thing that threw me off. You also need to remove the battery and poke a hole through the top rubber grommet towards the right side of it to feed the power wire through. I used the following YouTube video to disassemble the dash to get to the radio.

I think you’d be happy with the Audiocontrol LC7i for your loc. As long as your gains are set right and you set the high pass filter to around 80 hz on your amp you’ll have crystal clear audio. You can get them for a good price on EBay.

I put in PowerBass OE65C-FD direct fit speakers. The component system up front included replacement tweeters. They mount the same as the stock ones.

Granted these aren't near the high end speakers like Focals, but they were also only $130 for the front, sound great to me, and are a big improvement over the stock speakers.

One more thing for others who want to try this. There's lots of airbag stuff in those a pillars. You can't just set them aside. You have to sort of manipulate them out of the way and work around them. Also the tweeter wires are really short.

It took me way longer to do the tweeters than it did to do the rear doors. And the difference is less dramatic. More clarity, but it's subtle. The tweeters are not the weakest link.

Yeah, there's little bungee cord type things holding the plastic trim to the a pillar so that it doesn't fly in to your face when the airbag deploys. I didn't see an easy way to remove it, though in a couple youtube videos they do appear to remove the entire plastic trim. Maybe I just missed how to disconnect the bungee.

Just for reference here’s a not great pic I took of the underside of the dash trim piece that spans the whole dash that needs to be removed.
There are a bunch of clips that have to be popped out. I used my body panel plastic crow bar thing and twisted it to pop them up.

A couple of the metal pieces staid in the dash. I pulled them out carefully to not drop them and put them back on the trim piece before putting it back in place.
There are some wider white plastic clips along the very front that you have to really reach in to get. Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of them.
Also there are two tabs on the front that go around the light sensor. Be careful when removing and make sure to insert them first before snapping all the body clips back in. Or you’ll be like me and pop all the clips back out when you see the front edge not sitting flat.

picture of the front tabs, this is the underside of the trim panel:

For everyone who plans to do stuff like this: When you're popping out those dash panels, be careful. The "tower" where the clips snap onto the panel generally have a small plastic cross bar that they grip. It's really easy to snap that off.

Ask me how I know.... cheap plastic $!##!!
