What resistors did you install? I keep having a hyper flash issue inside on the driver’s side. The bulbs work fine and I’ve replaced them twice now.

Hyperflash is gone. It is a bit difficult to get the resistor harness in. I had to drop it down below the housing into the rear gap behind bumper cover. It was then a jiggle game to get the rear light housing to seat properly in the tabs before tightening the 10 mm nuts. It did succeed however, royal PITA.

I tried swapping out the turn signal bulbs to stop the hyperflash on the driver’s side, but noticed the brake light bulb on the same side was out. The passenger side brake bulb was almost too hot to touch. I put the oem brake light bulbs back in on both sides and that stopped the hyperflash. So I’m sure now the issue is the brake bulbs. Gonna try some different 3157’s to solve the problem. If that doesn’t work, I’m just going to put the oem bulbs back in and call it a day.

Another Update:
Attempted using a set of IOANU 3157 brake light leds with CANBUS built in and I’m still having the same issue. One brake light is still out and the turn signal is hyper flashing on the dash. Turn signal works fine outside the car, but again one brake light out. I’m thinking the only way to go is to wire in a resistor. It’s driving me nuts that this isn’t working.

Finally had time to get my LEDs in... I used these with no hyperflash or flicker (at least for now):

Turn: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1626VQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
Reverse: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XQWPKKX?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

The video shows the LEDs on the right, stock bulbs on the left; I know the video doesn't impress so much... the difference is much more noticeable live and in-person

I just don't think the light housing supports LED's which is why it's causing the hyperflashing. I'm ok with the bulbs because the LED ring around it looks great.

Aside from lasting longer, is there an advantage to LED lamps? It appears Ford made access to change the lamps fairly easy, so when/if one of the OEM lamps fails replacing it isn't a big hassle.

I could see going to LEDs in a situation where your power source is limited, but I believe the alternator is more than adequate to run everything in the car, including a 400 watt AC outlet in the back. What am I missing?

Brightness and illumination speed. The speed is really only an issue for the brake lights. It is a tiny fraction of a second, which might sound insignificant but at road speeds can be the difference between being in an accident or not. The brightness is probably best for the brake and reverse lights, but the turn signals can also benefit from it as well.

If you watch the video above you can see the speed at which the LED’s illuminate versus the incandescent.

I recently thought about buying LEDs. My neighbor and I constantly argue about them. He believes that LEDs are not the best option; they give a disgusting tint and have a bad effect on the eyes. And I think if you are in doubt about installing an LED in a car, try these lamps at home first. In particular, in the room where you are most often. I bought smart light bulbs, I have been using them for a month now, and everything suits me. The neighbor admitted that they look great in the house, but LEDs are still not approved as an upgrade for the car. And I still think it's a great option.

I'm a firm believer in LED bulbs and have put them in my last 3 new vehicles. I'm going to order them for the rear lights of my Outer Banks if it ever gets built and delivered. My question to the forum is whether to buy the red or white LEDS for the brake lights. Which is a better idea with the red lens?

Has anyone tried VLEDS? They have some of the best LEDs in the market in my opinion. I am really looking for a quality 921 LED that won't hyperlink as I don't want to keep yanking out the housing. They have a plug-and-play resistor option for 921s in Red & white but not amber. Wanted to see if anyone has used their standard LED 921 bulb.
I've used VLEDS in several application on past cars and motorcycles. They always worked flawlessly, but are more expensive. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

My factory tail lights work fine and are bright enough.
But I would like to have brighter back up lights so I may play with those if I can find the time.

I was having issues and was about to ship all of them back to Amazon when I thought I’d give it one last shot. This time I bent the connection points just a bit to make sure everything was making good contact. That seemed to help. I haven’t had any issues so far, fingers crossed.

thanks for the great info on parts.

I was just going to replace the backup light to be brighter. But I thought if I was taking out of the tail light assemblies to do this, I might as well replace the other lights consider there is a split second difference for the LED to light up quicker.
