Yes, after the recall my BS began having issues. I also received 4WD Fault Service Required, Steering Assist Fault Service Required, Hill Start Assist Not Available, Pre-Collision Assist Not Available, Service AdvanceTrac, notifications on my dash. Auto start/stop doesn't work anymore. And now my car wont start. I have an appointment this week to take my car back to the dealer.

I`m not shure if my problems are due to software update but since my BS whas updated I had 4x times experienced a start/stop failure, after stopping the car it didn't start when accelerating... twice I had this alert in the screen (it is in portuguese - "Switch to P gear and start").

I Also experienced about 5x times this month the car engine dying in the first attempt to turn it on, in the morning.... I Sent the car today for warranty for them to check what is going on...

Following here as info for you regarding my BS. BS 2023 with recall made in may. After that it had some start stop failure multiple times, battery with 1 year and some months old. They exchanged the battery today in the dealer but even after that the auto start stop failure appeared again with a new battery assembled. My BS 2023 has only 9200 miles, it is in ford dealer right now under investigation of what would be the issue... I dont know what could it be, maybe the starter... lets wait pray and see...

Did they replace it with an AGM battery?

UPDATE:
Left my vehicle at the dealership on Wednesday. I also noticed my coolant was low so I asked them to check. They determined that there is a hose leak. That hose was replaced less than one year ago and already needs to get replaced.
Before leaving the dealership, I was told I would have my vehicle back by today (Friday).

Well today is Friday and no update from the dealer so I decided to reach out. My current battery is dead and needs to be replaced. My original battery was not AGM so I made sure that they would replace it with one. Unfortunately my 3 year warranty expired at the beginning of this year but they gave me a discount on the new battery (charging me $175).

Now I’m being told that my car would be available next week Tuesday. Because they needed to order the hose and would need to flush out the system.

Off topic, I feel like the poll from OP isn’t giving an accurate representation of those also experiencing issues after the recall.

Had the 24S24 recall done last month. Hadn't noticed any issues since until today. 21 bronco sport wouldn't start. Just kept clicking. Just recently changed fob batteries, so there was an issue and I though was key fob
Went in house to do some research. Heard something and saw my lights were blinking and the bronco was still trying to start itself with the fob. Saw smoke too and awful smell as I was trying to disconnect battery.
Have to have towed and they can't even look at til Tuesday.
Out of warranty BTW.
Should have gotten rid of it after last issue. Brake moaning noise when backing up, which is coming back now!

Who on this thread tracks their gas mileage and can confirm a drop in gas mileage from before Recall 24S24 was completed to the weeks (months) after you had 24S24 completed?

If you track mileage, which engine (1.5L or 2L), and how much was the drop in mileage.

No need to respond if you do not track gas mileage or you had no drop in mpg.

Only respond if you track mileage, had Recall 24S24 completed and your mpg has dropped since the recall.

Recall 24S24 ā€œappearsā€ to negatively impact gas mileage on the order of 3-5mpg based on what other owners also reported but not everyone seems to be impacted because some report no change in gas mileage after 24S24.

And this can go on now in some cases has been over a month since they had the recall done and no increase in mpg back to what it was.

I don’t know if recall 24S24 is the cause of their drop in mpg, it is just suspicious and why the mpg has not recovered is also suspicious.

I track my mileage pretty closely and drive VERY consistently (both route and driving style) My mileage is off about 10% since having the recall work completed. I have questions.

So... i'm not a mechanic or electrical engineer, just a guy driving his BS and keeping an eye on mpg regularly. My question here. The recent recall was put in place to deal with power management, correct? If the software update required the alternator to run significantly longer to maintain proper charge to the battery and run the system, I'm guessing (admittedly a wild guess) that this may put more drag on the tiny 3 cylinder and cut into the mpg ?

I have no clue how the system controls voltage regulation or if it would be enough to affect MPG to the tune of the 10% that I'm seeing now, compared with mpg prior to the recall... Is this line of thinking possible? Complete rubbish? Is anyone out there able to provide some insight?

For sure yes. Check out this article which states ā€œIf the battery is weak and the alternator needs to generate more energy to keep up with the vehicle’s demands, it could sap as much as 2 miles per gallon more than it shouldā€

https://www.midtronics.com/blog/link-battery-health-fuel-efficiency/

Keep in mind not every owner experienced a drop in mpg after Recall 24S24 was completed and of course not every owner tracks their mileage so wouldn’t know if there was a drop.

There are other things that could be affecting your mileage, example: ā€œbad oxygen sensors can reduce your gas mileage by up to 20%ā€ and other owners commented on your other thread regarding more fuel mileage affecting items.

Google disagrees with the owners that stated a dirty air filter is a cause of reduced mileage:
ā€œThere's a myth that dirty air filters will affect gas mileage. Back in the day when cars had carburetors, that was true but modern cars have fuel injection and a dirty air filter will not affect fuel economy.ā€ Hmmmm.

Google disagrees with the owners that stated a dirty air filter is a cause of reduced mileage:
Modern cars use a computer to control the mixture (ratio of fuel and air) going to the engine. The computer measures the amount of air going to the engine and meters fuel via the fuel injectors to maximize power and/or efficiency, depending on the driver's torque demand (accelerator pedal position). That means if you restrict the amount of air going to the engine, say with a dirty air filter, the computer will automatically reduce the amount of fuel to maintain the mixture.

Carbureted engines use fixed fuel jets to meter fuel. The vacuum created by the pistons during the intake stroke pulls air through a venturi in the carb. The venturi accelerates the flow rate, which has the effect of reducing the pressure of the air stream. This low pressure pulls fuel from the carb's float bowl through the jets located in the venturi. The size of the jets determines the mixture. The astute among you may have realized, however, that it is the amount of air flowing through the venturi that determines mixture. While not as accurate as electronic fuel injection, it's at least consistent. What that means is if you reduce the air flow, say with a dirty air filter, then less fuel goes into the engine, thus maintaining mixture.

In other words, neither modern fuel injected vehicles nor older carbureted engines suffer significantly reduced fuel economy due to a dirty air filter. What WILL change is power output. The reduced air flow through a dirty filter means less air/fuel gets to the cylinders to make power, which ultimately means the engine cannot produce as much power as the same engine with a clean air filter.

If you have 25 minutes of free time the video below fully explains how a carburetor works. Fascinating stuff for the gear heads among us.

That’s great info thanks for posting!! You must roll your eyes at all the posts about air filters reducing mpg mileage.

Here’s a question, ā€˜22 Badlands. In June mileage dropped from 24.5 average (all calculations done manually) to 19 mpg.

The summer fuel blend here arrives well before June.
No recall 24S24 had been performed.
No change in tires, tire pressure, lift, nothing.
No change in driving pattern or habits.
Air conditioner here is used starting in March.
May, June, July are all super hot here but mileage didn’t drop until mid June.

The battery wasn’t replaced until end of July.

Large drop in mileage is concerning that something has failed but what?

My plan now is to see if mileage improves when the high temps (including the high night temps) disappear in a few months until next summer.

Not at all. I try to educate if I can.

Winter blend gas contains additives to increase volatility (easier to evaporate) and butane to make it more readily ignite in cold temperatures. This decreases the amount of energy in winter blend gas. Between that and the fact your engine takes longer to warm up, you should expect a reduction in fuel economy in the winter.

I cannot explain the reason for the reduction in your fuel economy without more data. Clearly, something has changed. Have you connected an OBDII scanner to check for trouble codes? The computer requires input from a number of sensors to manage the mixture. My first thought was that one has malfunctioned resulting in an overly rich mixture. For example, the computer maintains a significantly richer than normal mixture when the engine is cold to get the catalytic converters up to temperature as rapidly as possible (EPA stuff). If the temp sensor the engine relies on for that information is providing bad data then your engine could run rich all the time.

Clearly recall 24S24 did not work for your vehicle however it is difficult to say exactly that is the issue because your battery could have degraded significantly prior to the recall such that the calibration changes Ford made could not overcome the degradation done to the battery. 100% that’s a guess because there is insufficient evidence and no follow-on information (yet) from Ford.

On the other hand, one of the calibration changes is to prevent Auto Start Stop from engaging when the battery has insufficient charge. That calibration change for reasons unknown to us failed to work for your vehicle.
I had to have a new battery in mine before they did recall programming however they said it was not related of course.

It’s likely 100% related (in my opinion) if the owner didn’t use a battery tender that tends to reduce sulfation type issues or did not sufficiently drive the vehicle often and long enough (assuming that also helps) however Ford stated the battery was not covered as part of 24S24 Recall so not much recourse for the owner unless the battery was still under factory warranty.

ā€œBattery sulfation is a condition that occurs when lead sulfate crystals build up on the plates of a lead-acid battery. This can happen when a battery is not fully charged, or when it's stored or used in certain ways.ā€
