Good point.I think this may simply be light surface patina. It needn't have gotten wet; all you need is the oxygen in the air. When O2 molecules in the air come into contact with copper they combine with copper molecules to form a thin film. This will actually serve to protect the metal underneath from corrosion. In other words, I think it's completely normal and expected.
