Don’t monitor FordPass that often, just found an email alert today that there was a fault in the seat belt monitor module. Alert was from 9/19/23. Nothing has shown up on the screen(s). Haven’t noticed any problems, so just deleted email and went on my merry way.

Had a seat belt pretensioner fail on a F150 some time ago. For me, a trip to the junkyard fixed it, as 2004 to 2008 F150's are plentiful for used parts.

The pretensioner is made to cinch the belt tighter in the event of a collision. There is a tiny gas cylinder that operates and pulls the belt tighter. The belt system does a test every time you turn the key to on. If this gas cylinder fails that quick diag, it sets the dash light on (on the F150; not sure on the BS's) and sets a code.

Our 2023 Badlands with 8100miles getting this error repeatedly while driving. Also getting the cruise control turning off.

Ford dealership said I would have to leave the vehicle with them for 5-7 days before they could run diagnostic.

Any time I see issues with more than one electrical component simultaneously I think battery. Before you lose your car for a week you might take it to Auto Zone or other local parts store and ask them to do a battery load test. Not a voltage test, a LOAD TEST. Ask for that specifically.

Good point about battery. It was a hot summer, I wouldn’t be surprised it’s failed already. I’ll run it over tonight. Gotta get wipers anyway.

Hey, thought I'd follow up. They replaced the rear seat belt. It seems that was causing the cruise control to not function. The display screen needed an update and that fixed it's failing issue along with app function.

I got the rear belt fault after having the back seats down. When I put them back up I caught one of the belts. Once I corrected that, the warning quit showing.

I had this message pop up at the end of December. Dealer couldn't replicate and sent me home. On the way home I got the message again so took the car back the first week of January. They spent 4 days on it and told me they replaced the seat belt buckle and the whole assembly. A week later the message came up again. It came and went 5 times on that trip. Then gone for a week and then getting the message again more than a dozen times. I also get the little air bags symbol pop up from time to time without the belt error message. Should I be worried that this is a safety issue, or an annoyance when the warning sounds?

Hi there, Janet. This rear belt monitor concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Bronco Sport. If you are still in need of assistance, could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? To send a private message, just click on our username and select "Start Conversation". I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

I got this message in on and off last week, and here's what I did to fix it. Your mileage may varies... But I still want to share my steps to help.

1. Do a battery load test, there are several tutorial Or video online.
2. Get a battery charger (not jump starter) and charge the car battery for several hours, I charged it for 4 hours. This step is to make sure the battery is having good charge and healthy.
3. Follow the cable lead from the seatbelt buckle and find the plug under the driver seat.
4. Make sure your car is turned off. Unplug the buckle sensor cable from the seat section harness. It may need a bit force, I used a plier to help me unplug. Do Not PULL the cable, you may risk damaging the harness.
5. Use compressed air to give it a quick Clean on both side of the plug. I used my shop air compressor to do it, you can get away with a can of compressed air.
6. Plug them back together and after you hear the click, give it a little push to let it sit in We'll.

So far the message Never come back up again. I'll keep monitoring to see if it go away for good next week.

So following up from last weeks temp fix. I decided to change out the seatbelt buckle for good. Safety first!

Plus the part is not expensive, about 30 dollars I paid. I do not recommend to get one from junk yard, again, safety first!

I saw there are some info across different forums that you need to take out the entire seat to change. It is a good way to do it, but I want to share how you can switch it without taking your seat out for people who don't want to take apart their interior.

Tools you need:

T50 bit: short bit that can fit in the gap

Long 1/4 wrench: this will hold the T50 bit. I have a shorter 1/4 wrench, so I used a steel pipe to make it longer and get more leverage.

Part you need:

LJ6Z7861203BB

I bought it from fordparts.com, picked up Second day from a dealer. The website may prompt you it is a wrong part that does not fit. I had it fit perfectly and it is the same.

Here are the steps:
1. Shut down the car and raise your seat to the highest.

2. Unplug the buckle cable from below, it is easy to trace.

3. Use the T50 bit and 1/4 wrench to take off the seatbelt buckle. Maybe easier to do it at the back seat.

4. Replace the buckle with a new one and tight the screw, make sure it is real tight.

5. Turn on the car, you should not getting this message anymore, but if you have Forscan, go in there and clear the DTC for RCM.

Voila! You should not get this anymore.
